I have an instructor at my old A and P school and he said that he really wouldn't trust any airplane made ONLY out of wood. He actually was one of the FAA guys who signed off on the Ballanca Viking wing design, but he said that's an FAA designed and tested wing, not some homebuilt wing that was born in the garage on Elm street.
I really enjoy working with wood but I don't want it to bring me to my grave. The wood designs I've looked at in the past are the Corby Starlet and GP-4. I've heard nasty things about the GP-4's stall characteristics as well as spin characteristics so I'm not sure about that one, but it's performance numbers are incredible.
