Hi Everybody!
First off I am a complete newbie to all of this, I have done some research over the past few months but still completely wet behind the ears.
Here are some questions I need answered please.
1. I am looking to design and build my own airplane. I am looking to make it out of mostly wood and cover the frame in fabric. Is Sitka Spruce a good choice of wood? and what sort of fabric?
2. I am looking to make it an ultralight due to the no license rule. ( I have had training on how to fly one I just don't have the cash to get a sports pilot license) or experimental. Whats the difference between the two?
3. I am thinking of having powered by a VW 1600cc engine. does that sound correct? what sort of changes to the engine are needed?
4. Since it will only have a 5 gallon fuel tank, what are most fuel tanks made out of?
5. I am looking to make the design for the aircraft to look like a smaller version of a mix of aircraft (Messerschmitt Bf 109, Curtis P40, Supermarine Spitfire) does that sound like it could work?
6. I want to use mechanical flight controls, does anyone have diagrams/materials that its made out of/ Set up on aircraft, pretty much how to install them?
7. Does anyone know of any good design software(free or have to pay for it)? especially for homebuilt aircraft?
8. Most importantly where to start?
