Since 2014 the formula one racing cars have been using the Motor Generator Unit Heat (MGU-K) to harvest lost energy from the exhaust system. This electrical energy is either stored in the battery or sent to the Motor Generator Unit Kinetic (MGU_K) to add power to the vehicle.

What is the possibility of adding a generator to a turbo charger turbine after removing the compressor, and adding an electric motor to add power to the crankshaft. The goal of this is not to increase the engine power output as much as to increase the thermal efficiency of the engine. Looking at some of the electric motors out there the power to weight trade off might be good.
