    Continental IO-550 / IO-520 Engine core

Continental IO-550 / IO-520 core, including crankcase, crankshaft, cylinders, oil cooler, and starter motor. Not in working condition. May not be serviceable. Perfect for use as a mock-up engine, A&P training, or as a placeholder during aircraft construction. I purchased this run-out engine...

Scam or Legit . . . seen this postcard?

A couple of people have received this postcard from someone named Victor ([email protected], 954-646-0605) who claims to be looking for an airplane and transition flight training. "Victor" has not contacted the kit manufacturer, builders association, or online builders' groups, so this seems...

    Looking for plane suggestions

Truk, The CompAir models are going to be your best option. If you have a really big budget and want to be one of the first builders you could consider the Aircraft Design Stallion ($500,000; 6-seat; 235 mph) or the Sherpa Aircraft K650T ($800,000; 8-seat; 195 mph).

Best 4 Seat Homebuilt on an O-320 Engine

Vector, I only found 3 kits with 4 seats where the O-320 is the primary recommendation of the manufacturer: Creative Flight Aerocat TR Creative Flight Aerocat TRX Wag-Aero Group Sportsman 2+2 The Aerocats cruise above 150, if you believe the marketing hype. I’m sure there are hundreds of...

    Best 4 Seat Homebuilt??

Vector, You will attract more replies if you start your own thread. Many people just read the first page of a conversation and won't get all the way to page 4 to see your question. I'll do some resarch and reply to your new thread. RL

    A novice question

Build the Cozy. You will find it much easier to learn to fly a Cozy than to be one of the first builders of any new design. Don't start a plane that does not fit your mission. You will never finish it. Hope this helps!

    Best 4 Seat Homebuilt??

CloudBaseRacer, With a minimum final cost of $47k, the BD-4C is the lowest cost kit plane that will go nearly 175 knots (200 mph). There are plans-built designs that can be constructed less expensively, though, if you don't mind doing a lot more work. The next closest kits that can go this...

newbie introduction (and all the usual questions)

Mcrae, If you are an architect that isn't afraid of technical reading, I suggest you start with a couple of books on aircraft design principles. They will answer a lot of your questions about materials, testing, proven practices, and design considerations. Both are by Daniel P Raymer, Ph.D...

    Aircraft specific information

Thanks for compiling everyone's good information. As requested, here are some remarks to add to the Velocity section. If this is too verbose, feel free to edit. Reiff ======================= Velocity aircraft are fast, 4-seat, composite airplanes in a canard pusher configuration. The...

Help me chose a plane :)

I ran your criteria (2 seats, >100 kt cruise, <US$ 22k final cost), through a database of kits. I came up with these suggestions: 1. Falconar Avia has two kits, the F11A Sporty, and the F12A Cruiser. Not many of them have been completed, and you'll have to really bargain-hunt to squeeze the...

Looking for articles on basic design ideas/principles....

First, I also recommend the Raymer book, listed above. There are plenty of free online resources, though, that have good information on select topics. Here are some articles that I've found useful: Propeller in front or back? Technicalities | Flying Magazine | The World Pros and cons of...
