I was looking at some pictures of older ultralights and noticed that several (the Quicksilver included) used a short drive shaft to the propeller. I assume this was done for CG reasons or maybe to mount the engine on beefier structure in the center of the wing. Either way, I'm curious about the hardware used and the design of the shaft itself.
The pictures seem to show standard pillow block bearings used only to contain the prop shaft. All are belt driven.
Does anyone here know what the bearing setups that were used on these? I would like to know where the thrust bearing was implemented and what were any issues with the setups. - i.e. any common failure points.
Thanks for any help
