Just Saying Hi...

I live in the last agricultural area going north in Manitoba...the Canadian shield is just over the rise to the north. I raise organic hay, apples, and haskap, have pack llamas that I trained for trekking and hunting in the bush (they aren't very good shots), train my own retrievers for field work and build my own hunting boats, and we offer a private retreat (no charge) for people looking for solitude (was an ordained protestant clergy 30 years and now am a Benedictine oblate).

Each winter I have 4 months to devote full-time to an indoor project. I am currently putting together a 24' Glen-L Eagle...I will finish the lower end of the diesel engine rebuild for it this winter.

Going overseas for development work years ago killed my flying. But I did take my children hang-gliding when they were in high school. And now my children are gone from home and I have the itch to fly again, but am too old to hang glide. This is a remote and beautiful region. I have no desire, nor the money, to own a certified aeroplane. But an ultralight is feasible. And I take great pride in my own work. I have the skills, attention to detail, and perseverance to do such a build. I'm thinking of an Affordaplane, because I like the lines and the gussets, but need to research it much more and have no idea how it handles.

I hear that there is an A-plane group on Yahoo? Is that correct?

I'm glad to have found this site...glad it's here...some very fond memories from my flying days. My private pilot instructor in '79 was a helicopter pilot shot down twice in VN. What did you do?: I asked him. His response: Ordered a martini from the stewardess and enjoyed the ride down!

That's enough for now,

Always open to correspondence,

Craig
