I am currently working on a F11A from Falconar Avia. The plans say that you can use an engine up to 240 LBS. So I am looking at what is available low cost in the high time engines and what not that would work. There are plenty of A65 continentals available, however with that engine recommended max gross weight is 200 lbs less due to limited climb ability. One of the more available but 15 pounds to heavy engine is the O-320 lyc. My thought is to install this engine sans electrical system... it would be no different than the A65 from a convenience standpoint but with plenty of power. I figure the starter weighs 15 to 20 lbs the alternator/generator is 10 to 15 lbs and the battery another 25 to 30. Without all that stuff I could easily build the plane to a reasonable empty weight.

I am looking for comments... am I off my rocker???
