I have a bit of an electronics project, and would like some guidance. As the headline reads, I want to connect a Flightcom 403 to a Yeasu 550 and power them both from a single 12v Shorai lithium battery. The basic wire harness from the Flightcom to the jacks and ptt is not a problem.
Question 1: The Yeasu comes with a SCU-15 headset adapter. Its a 4 pole 3.5mm plug that a GA headset can plug into. I can buy a pre-wired 3.5mm plug, and run it right in to the Flightcom but then it would be un-shielded, or I can use 20ga 3 wire shielded headset jack wire and use the shielded as the ground and proceed to wire the 3.5mm plug myself. Opinions on this would be welcome.
Question 2: I would also like to run a wire to the Yeasu for ship power. I measured the voltage coming out of the AA battery pack, as expected it was 9v, the cigarette adapter output measured 9.6v. It looks like I would need to step down the power from 12v to 9 volts. That is not a problem. The problem is this, the manual emphatically states that if using AA batteries, only to use Alkaline as the AA tray does not contain thermal and over-current protection circuits required when using Ni-Cad and Ni-MH cells, basically the fine people at Yasue only want me to use their AA tray, their Lithium Battery, or their cigarette adapter. I don't want to use any of those. What I can do to make sure the 9v I supply to the Yeasue will not cook it. Thermal protection circuits and so on, are a bit out of my league right now. If I just solder something in line, I can do that, I just don't know what.
Question 3 RF noise. I have a marine switch with a cigarette adapter, and 2 usb ports I want to run as a part of this. My understanding is that those are pretty dirty and can introduce noise, so I was also thinking about adding a noise filter somewhere in the mix. Thoughts?
