I have a set of wings based on a tubular aluminum spar....old Avid wings. The issue is that a propane torch was used by the previous owner to un-glue a gusset near the spar attach fitting. I didn't think of it until after the purchase was made. After some thought and research about the situation I may have to scrap the wings. At least the front spar tube. I have read that some of the strength after heating returns....but I don't know how long it was heated. Just an assumption that it was long enough to soften the adhesive. The front spar tube would either need to be replaced if not found to be in serviceable condition. What are the odds of a longer internal "I" beam as an added safety to the structure besides the plywood piece? I would hate to scrap the project wings at this point of nearing ready to cover, but it needs to be safe. I just don't know enough about the metallurgy to safely asses the issue. One guy said to eddy current test the area to check the hardness. At a loss at this point. Any pointers happily accepted ... I have straightened out most all the other "need to redo that" stuff. :depressed
