Does an engine mount need to be dead nuts relative to the mounting holes on the engine and firewall? Or, is it acceptable to bend the mount slightly [.250] to accommodate a slight misalignment? A friend has worn out a new set of rubber engine shock mounts in 20 hours. Wear was on the two upper mounts, in the 2 o'clock direction. Aero-Vee engine mounted on a Preceptor Pup. Pup began to vibrate in straight and level flight. An upward change in pitch attitude would stop or lessen the vibration. According to the owner pilot the wear was enough to make metal to metal contact with the accessory plate on the Areo-Vee. So, it boils down to the question of hole location, or does he have an engine problem creating enough vibration to cause the wear? Engine was rebuilt and the new shock mounts were installed at that time.
