OK, I am not exactly a newbie, but I was wondering what the recommended method for closing out the raw foam on edges and ends of parts is.
I was looking at a friend's project, and the brace in the canopy is shown in the plans as 3/8" PVC foam, glassed both sides, and then the pattern is cut out and installed inside the turtle deck with fillets and tapes. That is fine as far as that goes. The cutout edges are to be left raw? He says that he did not see any closeout prescribed.
It just does not feel "sturdy" to me to leave the foam exposed. I would expect that the glass could get pulled away easily in operation. Then comes the issue of vent cutouts in fuel tank ribs. Do we leave them open to the fuel? I know that the foam is fuel safe, but it seems to invite foam particles into the fuel system...
Anyway, if these are to be closed out, what are the recommended methods?
