Chopper Gun

Hey all,
I know Chopper guns have been discussed briefly and if I am reading correctly, the general consensus is that the products turn out too heavy. Can anything be substituted to change the outcome such as material and maybe vacuum bagging? Maybe the boat builders can comment on their experience.
