Yes, there's more plys in areas of greater stress. Plus there's unidirectional plys on the top and bottom for spar caps. As usual, the shorter/smaller plys are layed up first, so their edges are covered. Yes, this spar construction, and single spar, carbon, wing construction are my own engineering design.
It's 56#... which is more than I had hoped. It needed to be extra strong because it is semi-cantilevered, and so long. But it serves as main spar, rear spar, and cross bracing, all rolled into one part.
