Airplanes to build around an A-65?

That is my view on the 65 as well. It is one of the most reliable aircraft engines ever built. With no electrics it is simple to work on and maintain, compared to some of the engines offered today.

Airplanes to build around an A-65?

Light Speed Engineering makes an electronic ignition system that the spark retards for hand starting. It looks like it could be good on the A65. I tried to order one for my A80 but all I got back was dead silence. I wanted to use one mag and one PLASMA II PLUS Capacitor Discharge Ignition. I...

    Continental A80-8

If you set the engine up with a prop suited to the A-65, and turn it at A-65 book rpm, the stock A-65 carb settings will be fine. I ordered a prop 68X47, it should turn somewhere between an A65 and A75. If EGT and CHT are good I can run it at higher RPM if not I'll back it off until it is...

    Continental A80-8

I'm Ok flying it I have an electric jacket and gloves, even in December when we get a decent day its quite pleasant to fly for an hour or so even with the open cockpit. The water vapor vapor in the crankcase and valve covers can be considerable in our wet coast climate. I think I'll run it...

    Continental A80-8

Ok that makes sense. It would help if it could protect the cylinders when the rainy season hits here on the BC coast.

    Continental A80-8

I’d run it just like it is. A-80’s run just fine!! But would you expect it to have the longevity and reliability of the a-65 or a-75 that's the question. I had thought I had bought an A-65 and wanted the 65's reliability. I'm just concerned I might lose that with the 80.

    Continental A80-8

Thanks Victor Bravo, some very good advice. Good cowling is a must in a slow biplane , and the importance getting the air to the bottom of the crankcase I hadn't considered.

    Continental A80-8

Thanks Pops. I should probably drop it to 75. I would save a couple lbs as well. The ones for the 80 are quite heavy. The five rings were a total surprise to me.

    Continental A80-8

Yes I'd be happy with the A75 , just very reluctant to buy new pistons and rings. Some times wish I was wealthy.

    Continental A80-8

Hi, So I picked up a small Continental that I am wanting to power my small biplane. I had thought I bought an A65, But found after pulling a cylinder discovered it was newly converted to an A80 with .015 over pistons. Now I am posed with the conundrum of what to do with it. The pistons rods and...

Ground Adjustable on an A65 Continental

Thanks for the replies. I guess a WD will work they say on their web site to go with the HP hub on Continentals. Tom Marson's Dakota Hawk N21298 looks like a nice flier. I would like an electric starter but can't handle the weight even if I could fit one on. A really heavy glove with Kevlar...

Ground Adjustable on an A65 Continental

Is a Warp Drive or Ivoprop a good idea on an A65 Continental? I've read of some problems sometime back but they seem to have been with C90 and 0-200. These would have higher compression. I would think stronger impulses, causing problems. I would prefer the Ivo as it's lighter. Would that make it...

Registering “Plans Built” aircraft in Canada.

I forgot to mention, with Basic Ultralight there are no inspections and you don't have to tell anyone you are building it. Just build it and register. A lot of freedom but obviously it is imperative to find some trusted to look over ones shoulder. Things can be missed!

Registering “Plans Built” aircraft in Canada.

For a basic ultralight it is very easy. Make sure it qualifies, then build it apply for a registration mark. (as the manufacturer you get to assign it a serial # 0001 is nice) Then you can register it. It is quite easy. If you wish to legally carry passengers or build something that doesn't...

    Valley Engineering PRSU info needed.

Thanks so much for the replies. Very much appreciated. Valley Engineering closed shop quite a few years ago. I emailed Alaina Lewis a couple of times but received no answer. She is probably very busy making props. I have watched the You Tube video and they make it look easy, just pull it tight...

    Valley Engineering PRSU info needed.

I have a Valley Engineering PRSU on my VW powered biplane. I need to find out where to get replacement balls for the belt tension-er. They are like super balls there are six of them. I also need to find out how tight to put them, there is supose to be two marks to line up, but mine only has...
