Alright, so I just completed my first page in my SEL logbook, 13.something hours. Most of those are tailwheel time in Citabrias. I much prefer stick and rudder type flying to 'driving' the typical 172, and I want to log as much tailwheel time as I can so I can get into towing. The problem is it took me 9 months of flying to get just 13 hours! I was grounded from an injury for half of that but even at 4 months of active flying thats only just more than 3 hours a month!

I've been wanting to fly 2-3 times a week and get going on this; but finding instructors willing to do primary in a taildragger, and planes to rent that don't have any insurance gotchas has proven difficult. Those that I have found that are willing aren't entirely sure how to proceed when it comes to the ifr portion or know of an examiner willing to do a checkride in one. I also have been handed off from one to the other. They're all located at airports 30+ miles away when I live ~5 from an airport littered with spamcans.

I'm starting to wonder if I should just suck it up and drive a 172 around for 40 hours like a 'normal' person. I know that if I'd started that way I'd probably be done by now; that is if I didn't quit from disinterest.

I did just start flying with a FBO with a 150 hp citabria for less than the 115hp version I was flying in a club before; with three instructors willing, if not totally sure how to proceed. Hopefully this will work out this time. I really wish I could just find some crazy old barnstormer with a cub.

Am I being too stubborn here?
