I'm using toggles instead of keyed switch and trying to wrap my head around how this works without risking kickback on my newly overhauled engine.

if I understand correctly, the sos vibrator gets positive from battery (starter activation) and ground from the retard points AND main points being closed. The retard points AND main points both being open causes the field collapse and subsequent firing event. As mag rotation continues the main points open but the retard points are grounded (closed) AND THIS KEEPS THE MAIN POINTS FROM CREATING A SPARK AND KICKBACK??

This is my place of confusion, what keeps the main points from initiating a spark prematurely? And, when the retard points are grounded after start, the main points operate with the mag coil normally I assume.

I've looked at schematics but it is still not clear.

thanks,

Jay
