Relief Notching

OK, my plans (circa 2001, I bought the kit from another builder that didn't start it) did not show relief notching on the HS Spar... so I didn't do it. It looks like this:

I see that another builders looks like this:

...and his plans (mine DON'T) say this:

My question is. how important is this style of a notch? Mine may extend deep enough into the web, but is shaped differently. Should I reshape it? I like the more gentle flow of my cuts better from a strictly aesthetic point of view. It just looks stronger.

What are your thoughts?
