Similar powerplants, why such performance differences?

Kristoffon, the Stallion is all carbon fibre, or heavily carbon fibre, iirc. The RV-10's 48.5" cabin is 2.25" wider than the Lancair IV, but the Stallion's cabin width is 49". The Velocity XL has the largest cabin of all 4 seat kit aircraft. With 47.5" shoulder to shoulder -- hum, I think...

Where are the high speed (200mph) high wing kits?

I've been eying the Murphy kits myself -- a Moose with mogas-compatible (apparently at least Russia's premium mogas) 360HP M-14P, yeah, that sounds fun. :) There's the Super Stallion, but that's way outside your "$30-40k for a completed airframe" stipulation.

Similar powerplants, why such performance differences?

I was at Martin Hollman's Aircraft Design website the other day and looking over some of the designs he's played a part in. He seems like quite a remarkable guy! Then I started wondering Why the speed difference between the Stallion and the Lancair IV? Why such a particuarlly large speed...

    Why such low VNE?

I was looking at the Radial Rocket Radial Rocket, Vne: 280mpg Why do GA airplanes have such low Vne numbers compared to WW2 airplanes? Is it a trade off between hauling ability and structural strength/weight? Simply an issue of current era building materials?

    6-seat canard homebuilt?

The velocity already offers three in the back with the XL-5 option, but apparently it's really only good for kids. I imagine three adults in the front and widening to accommodate that would result in seriously impaired speeds.

    Rotax 912 -- Sounds like a moped?

What are the tradeoffs with the Jabiru? The Rotax is easier to obtain or has a greater power/weight? I noticed Jabiru is working on a diesel. I'm really interested in seeing how that works out. Sounded good, besides the whine, until you got to the overpriced part. What do you like instead?

    6-seat canard homebuilt?

I would love for there to be an easy way to stretch the velocity a bit. But that's asking for time and money I don't have for experimentation. :\ I'm considering building a stopgap right now and waiting to see how the gweduck project turns out (itseems to beckon, despite it's poor cruise) or if...

    Rotax 912 -- Sounds like a moped?

Looking at building a Murphy Rebel as a fun stop-gap and going with a fuel-sipping Rotax 912. I heard my first Rotax via utube the other day though -- sounded like a moped. Is that just the nature of the beast, gear reduction, exhaust selection, or what? Higher-pitch whines annoy me to no...

    6-seat canard homebuilt?

^yeah, I saw that once in a traildragger. I'm not sure how that idea could be applied to the velocity though. Only thing I can think of is going external like one poster mentioned.

    6-seat canard homebuilt?

Now that would be neat. Not exactly what I'm looking for and rather slow, but neat just the same. I can't help but think of a Widgeon wreak I saw on thetube -- the biggest example of pilot error I can think of (probably drunk), but it's not labeled as a Widgeon, and I can't find it to link it...

    6-seat canard homebuilt?

I'd like to capitalize on modern technology rather than going with a WW2-era technology option. Want to go diesel too. I came across the Stallion which may do the trick. Not sure if there's a good diesel option for it. Maybe the DeltaHawk would work. I sent them an email. I wonder if...

    6-seat canard homebuilt?

I've been an aircraft nut for as long as I can remember and am looking at my options for building my own. Looking for a larger plane; a 6-seat would be nice. Would also need to accommodate skis and snowboards. Range at gross doesn't have to be exceptional -- I'm willing to sacrifice this aspect...
