Help to ID a plane please

Anyone have any idea what airplane this is? It is linked over to a Zenith forum but no longer works. Says it was made by Robert Herring. I really like the top on it - maybe a one off?

The New Zenith CH 750 "Cruzer"

I think it's a great concept and bet they will sell a lot of them...in fact, I bet they already have. One is flying with the UL 350 (130 hp) while another has the Jabiru 3300 (120 hp). I'd like to see how one flies with the Viking engine or even a Corvair since these are lower price alternatives.

    Thatcher CX5 nearing first fllight.....

Did it fly? Just looked at the site and didn't see anything?

    Engines, HP, and Props

Thanks for all the replies - I think that clears it up for me. I asked due to doing some research on an engine out of Belgium that seems to cause some debate surrounding its actual HP.

    Engines, HP, and Props

Just trying to understand this concept and thought I would ask.... An engine may be advertised as having, for example 120HP, but that HP is only made at a certain RPM. But depending on the prop that is installed the advertised HP may never be reached because the prop cannot spin a the top RPM...

The New Zenith CH 750 "Cruzer"

Don'ty mean to hijack this but if Zenith takes this same approach with the 801 that would be interesting.

    Which Aircraft to Build

How about the 801 instead of the 750? Zenith says the useful load of 1050 lbs.

    UL Engine

On the Zenith page they list the UL350i (118 HP) at $21,500 plus about another 5K for the FWF package. Bump it up an additional 1K and you get the 350iS with 130 HP.

    UL Engine

Go onto the big RV forum (you know the one) and look around the RV-12 section. There is a gentleman in Missouri flying an RV-12 with a UL engine....107 HP variety I believe. From what he has written, he appears to be a happy UL Power customer.

Using different engines - how to address CG W&B

Billski - OK you got me there. I used the term "nose wheel arm" when I was really meaning the weight measured at the nose wheel but not actually moving the nose wheel. Man that sounds confusing. Criticize you guys? Certainly not....I appreciate the time you take to answer my crazy questions!

Using different engines - how to address CG W&B

Did someone talk about moving the nosewheel? I mentioned the weight on the nosewheel as it pertained to the RV-9A W&B spreadhseet. Anyway, I appreciate all the expert feedback and guidance. I take a pretty conservative approach to most things - particularly those things that may go against...

Using different engines - how to address CG W&B

Thanks Detego - that helps me visualize it a bit better. So if I understand correctly, Chips true nosewheel weight is 242 lbs? When substituting a 192 lb nose weight the plane goes outside the rear CG pretty easily but that supposes the lighter engine is mounted the same distance from the...

Using different engines - how to address CG W&B

Just need to get smarter on something I've wondered as I read the various homebuilding sites around the internet. When someone wants to use an engine on a plane that is different than the one that the designer originally used for the plane, how do they determine that it is feasible in terms of...

    Redesign of the CH-640

And the use of the new ULPower engine (although I'd like to see fuel consumption figures before I get too exited). Forgot to include something on this... On the Zenith site, they are reporting that their UL-350iS (130hp) equipped CH-650 burns 6.8 gph at 2850 rpm for 118 kts. Not sure how...

    Redesign of the CH-640

What have you got against the existing stick/yoke though? The center Y stick in the Zenith designs always struck me as a little odd - but many people really like it. In fact, for lefties it's a good deal since they always have their writing hand free! I thought a stick option would be good to...

    Redesign of the CH-640

Slow day at work - been raining for days, so what else is there to do but to Power Point tinker with the design of a respected aeronautical engineer! (apologies to Mr Heintz) Here's what I think the great folks at Zenith (Zenair) should consider.

    Best 4 Seat Homebuilt??

Yep - that Sling is one sharp looking airplane. I am anxious to see the numbers as they fly off their 40 hour test phase. I am also curious about the performance with 4 people in that plane on a Rotax 914. Regardless, I've really enjoyed following the progress of The Airplane Factory guys -...

    Blind rivet construction

    Thanks for the insight gents!

    Blind rivet construction

I've been to a Sportair workshop and got some experience with dimpling and solid rivets but I am very interested in building a CH-650. As I look at the construction using the blind rivets, Zenith has you use a special head in the puller to turn the flush head rivet into a dome shaped one...

    Revamping the CH-801

Thanks for the feedback....guess I'll cross you guys off the list of contributors to my start up capital fund :-) Well it's fun to day dream about it I guess. Tom is that a Stallion? Ben your 801 is gorgeous - I saw pictures of it on the Zenith site. And come on now...a Skyhawk for 10K?
