    Small turbine engines.

I've been looking at a design that needs two or four small turbine engines, however they all seem to be silly money, short life (25hr tmo), and funny fuel (2 stroke! with total loss oil), and without generator. Is there a good place to look for moderate size engines, at a moderate price.

    Electric propulsion

Does anyone have a shareable source of electric propulsion items? Motors, batteries, controllers etc, or is a breakers yard Leaf or other electric car a good start?

    DIY jet plane

Having seen the EAA, Lance Hooley, Jet Guys webinar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Izm3CGZDFo ) there seem to be some bit's not covered! Especially the conversion of a free power turbine engine to a thrust producing turbo jet. Does anyone have any wisdom to share about converting jet engines...

    51% rule

If I buy a kit and do 51% of the building I get a Pemit to Fly/Experimantal plane, HOWEVER if I ever want rid of it, what does it become? Just considering that the purchaser will not have put in 51% of the building time/effort. (I'm planning to sell it when I've finished with it not crash it!).

    Vortex control wing tips

Most light aircraft I see have downward turning vortex control wingtips, most airliners have upward pointing winglets/tiplets supposedly for vortex control. What is the reason for the various styles and why chose one or the other?

    24v/28v electrics

I'm looking at one option which puts out 28vdc. Is 28v really just the on charge voltage of 24v of lead acid batteries or do I consider looking for 14v batteries?

Experimental/Permit to fly in IMC and IFR

Is it permissible to use an "Experimental" or UK "Permit to Fly" in IMC/IFR? -OK assuming sufficient instrument kit. I mean deliberately filing a flightplan for instrument airspace, not asking for radar advisory flying.

    Windscreens with 3D curves

I keep thinking of nice shapes for aeroplanes BUT (!), How do I find a suitable 3D curved cockpit canopy? I can see having a bent sheet with only one curve axis, but I've no idea about a canopy like a blister. What do others do? I really don't want to have to vacuum form 10mm acrylic sheet, it...

Books on aerodynamics at home constructor scale please

I'm looking for reliable text books on aero engineering and aerodynamics so that I can try to turn some fag packet sketches into a proposed, calculated design. Can you suggest a good book? title, author and USBN would help, Available in the UK or on Abebooks would help, If you are in the UK...

    Altitude and breathing

What is the forum's opinion of the altitudes at which oxygen should be used and where is plain oxygen not sufficient, - pressure cabin? No I don't plan to go near the pressure suit heights. IIRC the RAF offered oxygen from 8oooft and mandated it from 13000ft. If using a nasal canula for oxygen...

Composite, turbine, homebuilt. Has anyone tried it before

I've been dreaming of a home built 1/5 (ish) scale Avro Vulcan, using four model aircraft turbines. Recently the (UK) LAA has been granted authority to supervise jet engine developments on Permit to Fly. I'm looking for something fast, two seat probably tandem, that's happy to cruise at...

Jet vs Piston, Thrust vs Power.

Is there any correlation between piston engine power and jet engine thrust? Will say 100BHP into a propeller have a rated thrust like a jet engine has a rated thrust? Does anyone know the rated thrust of the Bede BD-5 mini jet plane?

    20% Vulcan project

From my introduction -thanks for the welcome- I'd like to take the idea of making a Vulcan flyable replica a little further. The original was meant to take a crew of about 5 and a 10ton payload so at 20% there may be space for pilot + one. Is there anyone here with specific knowledge of UK...

Vulcan Jet -Mad project or been done before?

I've been flying for a few years and would like to consider making a scale flyable Vulcan. Has it been done? Can it be done? Possibly a tandem two seater? Possibly four AMT Olympus jets.
