Scratch building a Stol/bush plane. Help me out with the candidates.

I don’t have any real world experience with either. My thoughts were if your building rather buying, the Patrol is going to equal and even surpass Supercub performance. And you have a brand new plane that you built. There’s not too many RW19s being flown but it’s still way more than the STOL...

Scratch building a Stol/bush plane. Help me out with the candidates.

IMHO, the best plane you’ve mentioned is the Bearhawk Patrol but like others have said the issue with many designs are lack of a folding option. Have you considered Roger Mann’s RW19 Stork? Several have Ben built and have been fitted with both aviation and auto engines. Ragwing 19

Difference between the Zenith 601, XL, XLB, HDS? and the 650?

I heard there was some spar issues on one of the 601 models, I’m not sure which one. But I’m sure there were other mods too. I’m going to be building a pulled rivet gas tank sealed with the Vans RV method for my Piet. I’m so excited about this part of the build (I’m going to actually buy the...

E-AB registration when buying a partially completed project?

Hey all, So I purchased a partially completed Pietenpol. Steel fuselage, is welded, most of the work on the wings are complete, same with the empennage and it’s sitting on the gear. But there’s still a tremendous amount to do. My understanding is that since it is a plans built design, it...

Thanks! Yes, I’m very excited to say the least. I’m planning on VGs but will wait and get a good baseline on performance first. My Corvair is currently set up for 100hp 2700 cc If my crankshaft passes magnafluxing, I plan to upgrade to 2850cc by just swapping out the jugs and pistons. It’s...

    Safe airspeed question.

Thanks for the replies this far gentleman. So Wes, if I understand correctly, this is why they would have cruise speeds established like 138 mph at sea level for the Zenith. If this indicated airspeed is achieved in straight and level flight at higher altitudes and not exceeded, then the...

    Safe airspeed question.

Hi all, Please forgive my ignorance. I’m a two time soloed student pilot and haven’t flown in probably 30 years. I’m building a plane and will resume flight training in a couple of years. I see all the different airspeeds and understand the definition of each. Here’s my question. A...

So I was looking around and saw this post from three years ago. So here’s an update. Never made it out to Texas. Caught covid and got pretty sick. But recovered and all is well. Plane wise I did buy a project. I picked it up in 2022. It is….drumroll please…… A Pietenpol Air Camper. It...

Telling the difference between zinc and tin coated nicopress sleeves?

Hey all! If this is in the wrong forum please move it accordingly. So I was over at Homebuilt Help and watched a video on when to use which sleeve. The gentleman stated that bare copper and zinc plated copper were to be used on galvanized and tin plated copper on stainless. I have galvanized...

That’s really great to hear. I’m super excited but need so secure a place to keep it. I wish I had a farm and a barn but I don’t.

Hi all! What a difference a year makes. I just went back through and reread all the replies, lots of good information and input. Taking everything into account, including the piece of advice one gentleman gave (this won’t be your last plane...) I’ve decided to go with the Chinook SJ model...

When or how can a certified aircraft engine become "Experimental"? Also, once that happens, can the owner rebuild it themselves?

Perfect! Anyone out there done this before? I realize that I may not save a lot (I'm actually not sure) but I would love to know the ends and outs of the power plant.

When or how can a certified aircraft engine become "Experimental"? Also, once that happens, can the owner rebuild it themselves?

I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that once an engine (Continental, Lycoming) is installed in an Experimental Amateur Built or homebuilt LSA that it can be serviced and repaired by the builder. Is this correct? If this is the case, then the builder can rebuild the engine or have it done for...

Yes, me too. What I've noticed is that the guys that really take their 701's (haven't seen many 750's like this yet), have the really big tundra tires. My guess is that they are using them to soak up some of the energy. I'm mean you gotta do what you've gotta do.

Best Bang for the Buck STOL

Thanks much for the input. I certainly had not factored in the insurance costs. I do have a question about the 750. I've read somewhere that the design may not be as rugged as the Highlander, etc. In the thread it was stated that most of the 750/701 drivers tended to stay away from rugged...
