    A pilot’s fateful, career-altering flight under Michigan’s Mackinac Bridge

Much better than the acetylene fired Sand Dabs those other folks cooked for him.

    Crazy idea: U2 Spy Plane

Two thoughts on the motor glider. 1) Very sad that it is intended for the buyer NOT to fly it. I wonder why they think it is worth $60K as a non-flyer? 2) Neat airplane. The kind of thing that should be in a prominent location in the EAA museum.

    Power to weight ratio !

Power to weight is the power of the engine divided by the weight of the aircraft. It is that simple. Yes, you can choose to measure it at different weights. So, my RV-6 has a power to weight ratio of 160 hp/1675 pounds = 0.096 hp/lb at gross. And at lightweight, the ratio is 160 hp/1200 lbs...

    A case for modern airships

If you want to create high altitude signal relays, or perhaps do persistent recon over or around unfriendly territory, a high altitude balloon or airship might be the ticket. But at jetstream altitudes and below, they are a gust of wind away from a bad ending.

The hot mess of aviation magazines because of Firecrown

In the deep down reptilian part of my brain ( approx 98% of it, according to my wife) I think I remember that. It was bizarre.

The hot mess of aviation magazines because of Firecrown

I know that my Kitplanes subscription was accidentally flipped to digital only at the transition. An email and a phone call later and it was fixed. So at least that one has signs of life.

Tennessee Lawmakers Propose Legislation Banning ‘Chemtrails’

No. I heard about their whiskey production long before the war ended.

Tennessee Lawmakers Propose Legislation Banning ‘Chemtrails’

This has the makings of an amazing conspiracy theory.

    Inherent, quiet?

The B-2 is louder than the hammers of hell. The exhaust design was to shield the exhaust from infrared sensors.

Just how fast was the SR-71?

I think it is interesting that accelerating from (say) M 3.2 to 3.4 or even 3.5 would have made a real difference.

    Saving Ultralights From Being Banned

“Hey mayor, we’re having….on Saturday. How ‘bout I pick you up at 9:00 and I’ll drive both of us over there”. Can’t hurt. Worst that happens is he declines.

    Saving Ultralights From Being Banned

I think the point is... Make friends with the guy. Not brown nose him, but meet him for lunch. Get to know him. As Dan said, support his projects and encourage him to support your concerns. Ain't no benefit for him to outlaw ultralights, and there is benefit to you to keep them at the local...

What did you do on your airplane project today?

You guys are killing it. I spent a couple of hours last week installing a Garmin G5 with backup battery in the RV-10. I’d anticipated this addition when I built the airplane, so it was pretty easy.

Good-News Study On Airport Lead Exposure Kept Under Wraps

I'm sure there are some who are bothered by noise. But my sense is those people are generally agitated about it because local land grabbers encourage them to protest. If the land grabbers can get useful idiots (noise protesters) to shout down the airport, that furthers their goals. Same thing...
