Yes, we’ll have a rental car. - Pat

    New Zealand

Will be going to New Zealand with my wife and another couple (he and I are both private pilots and have built & flown Zenith’s - he in Australia and myself in the US). While the wives have been doing the trip planning thus far, I’d really like to see some aviation related things while we’re...

What did you do on your airplane project today?

Mounted an engine on my Zenith 750 project. Installed Dynon sensors. Beginning work on fuel, cooling, and electric systems.

If you came into a spare million dollars…..

Straight into an S&P500 index fund, minus enough to buy the nicest Champ on the planet.

Why is GA continuing its demise?

Those of us who have airplanes are automatically “upper class“ in the eyes of the general public. In that light, I consider myself lower upper class. 🤣

Would You Go to A&P school at 65 ?

No. Instead, I'd buy a modern kit (like a Zenith 750 or similar) and build that. That gets you some fun, some skills, it's totally achievable, and you've actually got something to show for your efforts other than student debt when it's done.

What did you do on your airplane project today?

Put my Zenith 750 on it's gear for the first time.

Yet another but more serious approach to start a kit plane project.

That is fantastic news. Your experience resonates because things in life had to line up just right for me too, and your path sounds similar to mine. It’s possible that we’ve met in person. I was at a workshop in May (my second time around, separated by 17 years), and I was also at the recent...

    Horrible news from Vans Aircraft

There has been several occasions where I’ve approached vendors at Oshkosh about purchasing an item, and when they find out that I have something other than an RV they dismiss me. While I wish well to all, I’m having difficulty finding sympathy for businesses that focus so entirely - even...

    Horrible news from Vans Aircraft

Thoughts on Van’s fiasco having a negative impact on MOSAIC…?

Crashes in the News - Thread

I don’t know that the raw number of hours is necessarily a good indicator of how “good“ a pilot is, other than in the case where that pilot is flying an aircraft in which he has those hours in. When I was a new pilot working on my taildragger endorsement, I was shocked at the lack of skill of...

    Horrible news from Vans Aircraft

Might be a good time for Van's builders to look into Viking Engines as an alternative.

    Fun with oratex

I wonder if Orarex could be used for spanning across aluminum surfaces, for example using it to stretch across/over landing gear brackets or making wing root fairings, etc…? Looking at all the bumps and protrusions on my airplane, I can’t help but to wonder if something like Oratex could be...

    Azalea Saberwing

Something that I do is hit "ignore" on members whose contributions are meaningless, or worse - those who appear wrongly authoritative on topics of which I have actual experience. Filtering out that sort of chaff makes this forum 100% better. Might be a good idea for the moderators to ban...

What did you do on your airplane project today?

Built a Wing Rack, placed right wing in it, started on skeleton of left wing.

    MOSAIC Rule Change

There will be opposition from groups like ALPA, and no doubt there will be detrimental "language" inserted in the 11th hour by politicians. And there's the natural tendency for the FAA to screw things up. I'm hopeful, but I'll believe it when I see it...

To what out-of-production aircraft would you buy the rights, if you wanted to start a 'kit-plane' company?

Grumman Tiger. It's been resurrected as a certificated aircraft a couple of times. Perhaps it would get some traction in the market as a homebuilt 4 seater...

Vans finally taking the laser cut hole cracking problem seriously.. 07-04-2023

Nailed it. Everyone knows that Vans will “do the right thing“. But we also know that some builders (and MANY non-builder owners) will not do what is required. Fairly or not, there is now a cloud of uncertainty around the ”Covid RV’s”, and the resale market is going punish them. I feel...

Vans finally taking the laser cut hole cracking problem seriously.. 07-04-2023

Wow. I was under the impression that Laser cut holes were perfect. Bet a lot of people assume the same thing. What is interesting from a personal perspective is that I’m well into a project that has lots of CNC drilled holes. Sure I have to deburr, and sometimes I even run a reamer before...

What Did You Do To Save General Aviation Today?

Indeed it is. On that day we had two exceptional airplanes at my house. It's nice living on a residential airpark, and having friends fly in and taxi right up to the house. - Pat
