    rotax 583 adaptation questions

Ok, i'm most likely going to be putting a Rotax 583 out of a snow mobile in my BD-5 since that is the most cost effective and what i have seen as a good setup for the airplane. Question is, all the ones i've seen have pull start and a "lighting coil". I need an Electric start and a 12volt...

    bonded aluminum construction

Does everyone here forget the BD-5? The ENTIRE aircraft is assembled using "pro-seal B2" a aviation fueltank and pressurized bulkhead sealant / bonding agent. Granted it isn't assembled with just the pro-seal it also uses the Avex style pop rivets. It is an extremely simple method (ok, its...

    Project Progress

I was wondering what that was. I'm glad to hear that the stock trim system is working out well for you, as i didn't want to fork our the $390 for the electric trim system from BD-micro.

    Project Progress

Looks good. Is that the stock grip? If so, hows it holding up? i've heard of them breaking on some people while inflight and am not sure if i want to use it or not (i've got 3). I'm also looking into going with one of the glass panel displays now as the prices are pretty entertaining. Right...

    Project Progress

Tinbuzzard, thanks for the input.. I have already installed the control stick in the position shown on the plans as it seemed pretty comfortable to me. I also plan on making a set of aluminum side consoles to replace the portion aft of the "cut line" on them to make it a bit sturdier in...

    pitot position

+1 I suggest going out to the local airport and taking a walkaround the ramp (just make sure you let them know about it) and seeing the positions of the pitot tube on other aircraft (pictures help to keep the memory fresh). on my project the pitot tube is about 12" long and sticks out of...

    Project Progress

Im a bit bored here sitting at home, as its waaayy to cold to go to the shop to work on the BD-5, not to mention i'm pretty tired after a long day of work, so i thought i'd post up some progress pictures. The day i picked it up on August the 18th, roughly 55% complete 3 months Later...

Where have all the Long EZ's gone?

we've got a group or people here in Greenville, SC that are currently building a lot of 6 velocity's. lots of airplane stuff, i'm amazed they keep it all sorted as far as who's is who's

    BD-5 project pictures

i've seen pictures of a BD-5 w/ a subaru EA81 engine (horizontally opposed 4cyl.) w/ intakes like that covering the cylinders. I personally think it looked retarded, but i'll see if i can't find the picture for ya to see.

    BD-5 project pictures

Just thought i would show you guys some pictures from my latest BD-5 project. I sold the previous one, bought another that was advertised as 95% complete, then got it and it was more like 50% complete. Then i found this one fairly local (3 hours away), drove to look at it, and it was 98%...

    Bede 4 Plans for sale

Ok.. I bought another BD-5 kit and with it came a tube full of plans. I never looked at them until last night, and found out they are actually Bede-4 plans. They look to be 100% complete plans with drawings of lots of parts. Not sure what they are worth, so here's a price, if you like it...

    Single seat aircraft ?

My Bd-5 project (the 2nd one, sold the first) is a little single seat project, and its got enough room behind the seat to put a brief case and a few pairs of cloth's. And thats it. Maybe 10-15 lbs worth of stuff. But if i decide to do the 5.2" stretch to the fuselage (probly will) that adds...

    RV HS End Spar question

I don't have any experience with the Vans aircraft, but i would just call them up and find out why they changed it. Manufacturers change things for a reason, but i really don't see why they would want you to trim that to begin with, unless it has some to do with the way the fiberglass tip cap...

    Flying Prone ?

I'll can attest to, that gettin out of a position like that isn't the easiest. In the BD-5 fuselage i have, it was a pain in the butt to get out without the instrument panel and consoles in the fuselage

    Spar Stiffner.... attn: Orion

Wow.. that definately sounds like an idea.. but WAAAYYYYYYY to much work for me.. I've already got 1/2 of each wing panel closed.. not to mention i don't mind the extra 10lb of the superspar. Bob Bishop is using it in there "ballistic missle" BD-5's and putting it thru its paces with now...

    Spar Stiffner.... attn: Orion

Skeeter at BD-micro actually Did an assessment of cost and labor to convert to a Composite Wing struture for the BD-5 to make it an easier aircraft to build, but he said that the cost and time saved wasn't really worth the bother, from what i remember. He also already has the spar stiffner...

Introducing a panel builder and IFR questions

The dimensions for the panels on that site aren't 100% accurate either.. It said on my BD5 panel, i could fit the Grand Rapids EFIS System, a Garmin 430, and a Garmin transponder all on my panel, along with a few extra steam gauges.. but when you measure it out on the real thing, your lucky to...

    Aircraft Structures

Yup, not to mention the empennage section of the fuselage of piper seminoles is only .032", and theres only about 2 formers and a few stringers in that section. ALL of the skins on my BD-5 wings, tail section and control surfaces are .020" with the fuselage skins being .032". And all of the...
