    Perfect Rivets

Yes, but the alloys are made by humans. Maybe the guy who was mixing the alloy, his gold fish just died and he was upset and dumped in too much Silicon. Yes, I know. It is probably all computerized, but you should get my point.

    Why are alternators so heavy?

The title of the thread says "inverter", but his post talks about alternators and generators. Just what is it he is talking about?

    Perfect Rivets

Since the rivets are made by humans.... Since the rivet guns are made by humans.... Since the sheet aluminum is made by humans.... Since the holes are drilled by humans... Since YOU are a human (I assume, anyway;)).... You are never going to get a perfect rivet. YOU have to decide on what is...

    DIY gauges??

Uh, I did that 10 years ago just to get an idea of what could be done. Never did anything more with it.

    Building a MiniMAX (Again)

Fuel Injection? I seem to recall reading about a way to do it on the big brother 4A-084. The same trick might work on the 2A-042. Sorry, I don't remember where I saw it. It was about 10-12 years ago.

    DIY gauges??

Yes, but anything that doesn't follow the RS-232 format is a misuse of the term. Since he measured 9.5v it is highly likely it is an actual RS-232 port, and many of them use an "abbreviated" interface with a DB-9 connector instead of the full-blown DB-25. And many things use 3.5 volt logic now.

    DIY gauges??

Ok, now the two txt files tells you a lot. Good detective work, bakercdb! From the ASCII.txt you can see that it is NOT a stream of ASCII characters, but is what used to be called ASCII puke. The HEX.txt file indicates that it is a stream of 8 bit binary bytes, starting with $FF00. From...

    DIY gauges??

No it did not. I didn't see any actual data. Just a description of what the data fields are used for. What coding is used? ASCII characters or raw numbers sent 8 bits at a time? The file you provided doesn't say. Are there more pages to the document? You measured 9.75 volts? Typically an...

    DIY gauges??

Is it actually an RS232 data port, or just a serial stream of ASCII characters? Comma delimited or a solid bunch of characters? It would help if you had an actual example to look at. If I was you I would get an Arduino and learn how to program it by going through the examples. There are also...

The Janowski Project - Rethinking the J1B/J2/J3

As far as I know they are orphaned, so no assigned serial number. You will have to assign your own number.

The Ultimate Guide to Raiders of the Lost Ark's Iconic Aircraft!

The DC-3 had 21 seats. If Indy was the only passenger. and they used all the remaining seats for fuel, that means an extra 900 gallons. The DC-3 held 804 gallons and had a range of about 1500 miles. It is about 3000 miles from New York to Tenerife, so with a total of 1704 gallons they might...

The Ultimate Guide to Raiders of the Lost Ark's Iconic Aircraft!

I would like to know how they got a DC-3 to fly nonstop to the Canary Islands.🤔 But that was in another Indy Jones movie.

The Janowski Project - Rethinking the J1B/J2/J3

It was mentioned earlier in this thread, and there were even some pictures posted. There is an aluminum version in Russia.

    Sport Pilots Association

Okay then, a couple of questions. If you are a ""private pilot exercising sport pilot privileges" and your medical expires, do you automatically have the "various endorsements"? If you have a PP but have not flown for many years and then decide to do PP, do you automatically have the...

    Sport Pilots Association

That would be a good idea only if the FAA waved the "flunk the medical and you are done" rule for those cases. As I understand it, if you try to upgrade to PP and flunk your medical you can not fall back to SP based on your drivers license (even if you have flown safely for many years)?

That's what Myth Busters did IIRC.
