    Turbo-normaliser question

Turbo normalizing not practical without in flight controllable propeller. I’m not a VW expert, but I’ll bet this is sketchy at best. So by the time you turbocharge and get an expensive or unicorn prop another engine was probably a better choice.

    Resurrecting the Dyna-Cam

I have heard…not sure where… that Dyna-Cam still has lawyers to protect their IP, that it would be hard to use slash plate tech in an aircraft engine. Seems like a great design. I’ve been a fan since seeing it in Popular Mechanics anout a hundred years ago…

Seven accidents in seven days...I honestly thought this was a satire article!

The author also reported that the owner's maintenance / repairs were illegal. He should have known better that this was not the case.

    Quality DC-DC converters 24v to 12v

Just acquired new engine / ff for my project; O-360 with all accessories. Came with nearly-new starter and battery. Only issue is the starter and battery are 24v. Most of my airplane is OK with 12 or 24 v, except for the LED navigation/strobe/beacon lights which are 12v only. I envision...

    OSH Cut Laser Cutting

I recently designed an instrument panel using a CAD program and thought I was being smart taking it to a local CNC router guy… I bought the metal and he charged me $120. And it was a fail. Due to the radius of the bit, none of the Dynon parts would fit until I filed all of the corners. Took...

    GS Antenna

I have used a zfs unit in two airplanes. 430w plus SL30 in both cases. Worked perfectly. 3 Ways Power Splitter, 1 - 1000 MHz, 75Ω | ZFSC-3-4-75+ | Mini-Circuits This one has three outputs. Two to the 430W and one to the SL30

    VW conversion economics

$/hp makes sense. Many costs are there regardless, one cylinder or 4... That is a sweet looking airplane! And I just love the high wing motorglider. Wikipedia says that the later versions were "improved" with lowering wing. Any idea what this means, or if it's even real? I would love a...

Update Garmin GPSMAP 695 with standard USB cable?

Standard USB cable works just fine for the 696 updates. Depending on the device it's connected to, there may or not be enough current available to power / charge the unit. If the unit won't charge while connected to the computer via USB, be sure to charge it fully before beginning the update...

There are two choices for the BasicMed; AOPA and Mayo Clinic: AOPA Basic Med Course Mayo Clinic Basic Med Course There is basically no alternate to one of these if you want to go Basic Med. Unfortunately, both do involve a test.

    Experimental Aircraft Oxygen Systems

I didn't come up with this, but it's the setup I use, except a smaller bottle because I'm usually solo at altitude [Was originally posted on POA by a Dr. Bruce Chien, a senior AME] Go to a welding shop or a medical supply shop and BUY outright the biggest Aluminum cylinder you can- a Super...

    Sunglass Lenses ?

+++ on American Optical I have been wearing these for 30+ years since my Air Force days. I now use them with the stick on readers in the lower portion. But..what is the deal about pricing on these? I always paid about $40-60 for these. My most recent pair was purchased from Amazon in 2018...

    automotive paints, anyone?

I have used the Summit single stage urethane paint, one of the stock white colors. I painted my house propane tank, a metal shed, and a fiberglass boat for practice, to get ready to paint my RV-6 and 172. The paint goes on really well. Easy to spray. The propane tank is in full sun and three...

    WTB: Wag-Aero Sportsman 2+2 plans

I am interested in the Wag-Aero Sportsman 2+2 (PA-14 clone). I believe that there is a pretty low probability I will actually build one; I would need to farm out the welding. What I would love to do is review the plans in detail, to learn more about the plane, get an idea of the scope of the...

Can you please help me value a Christavia Mk4?

Another unfortunate example on the impact of alternative engines when it comes time to sell... With a Lycoming this has the potential to be a $30k airplane. With this engine not so much. I am not against alternative engines... I built and flew an Rv-8 with a Mazda rotary in the 90's. I...

PLEASE IGNORE ME For Sale Continental REM IO-360 & Prop

My thought is that an engine flown less than 20 hours a year for 23 years is pretty close to core value. I believe the propeller has calendar limits for overhaul as well. Someone might be willing to fly behind it with eyes wide open, but the offering price will be likely be lower to account for...

    CAD Program

I recently bought half interest in a CNC table with router and laser. The co-owner knows how to upload files, run the machine, etc., but doesn't have experience to teach me about the use of CAD programs to create designs. I have several projects in my head, but don't own any CAD software and...
