    Sandlin Gliders: Builds, mods, flights

Here is Victor Bravo's original thread about his DINGO idea http://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forums/threads/dingo-glider-split-from-sandlin-goat-thread.25988/

    Limbach VW Engines

I've been wondering WHAT blimps these engines came out of. American Blimp Corporation A-60+. Nice reference here https://lynceans.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/American-Blimp-Corp-converted-compressed-1.pdf I suspect the engines were removed when the envelopes timed out, or failed a punch...

    Sandlin Gliders: Builds, mods, flights

If you live anywhere near one of their depots, Tube Service has very good inventory and service, but they tend to be a little more expensive than Spruce on stuff Spruce has in stock. Tube Service has EVERYTHING in stock, and their automated warehouses means they ship pretty fast...

One of the Bingelis books has a chapter on this matter.

    Limbach VW Engines

I think a better plan is to turn down the OD of the case spigots of readily available barrels. I don't like taking ANY metal out of the case without a REALLY GOOD reason. There are people making 94mm P&C that fit in 92mm case holes (AA Performance?), so the concept is proven. The sealing...

    Limbach VW Engines

Another thing to like: Safety wire holes in the gland nut. NOBODY re-rings VWs, mostly because P&Cs are so cheap, but that's assuming cast iron barrels and cast aluminum pistons. Do you have evidence either the rings or barrels are out of tolerance? http://hastingspistonrings.com/aftermarket/...

Tractor engine legal UL with easy folding wings?

From talking to a man who owned one, there were about 30 Backyard Flyers built; there will be no more; most of them are clustered around Central Missouri; and they were typically trailered when the wings were rotated. The one I saw had the Generac re-drive on it, and reportedly flew pretty...

    Limbach VW Engines

An oil slinger AND a backwards Acme thread on the hub to "screw" any oil film that escapes the slinger back into the case. Should be pretty dry, at least at the hub. Nice.

A lot of launch sites REQUIRE H2 or P2. Neither is an option for 65 year old fat guy.

    Tube flattening techniques

OP is working with ALUMINUM tubing. Which should be bent COLD. Arbor press with some form of die that gentles out the transition.

Current Sensing for an Alternator-Dependent airplane

Thanks in particular to Toolbuilder and Rv6ejguy for clarifying my thinking. I don't need the current sensing I proposed in the Original Post. I set the Voltage Green Range on my Dynon SkyView per Russ' suggestions, and my mind is right, on this point at least.

    Pitot static plumbing

I had a professional come and do my pitot-static/Mode C checks today, and we had to chase leaks at the Dynon Air Data unit. He says this is not uncommon on Experimentals that use the push to connect fittings for plastic tubing, and he greatly prefers the Nylo-Seal stuff. As it turns out, my...

Seeking comments on gravity bleeders such as Homebuilders Brake Bleeder

I found that bleeders that use air to pressurize the oil CAN also foam it, if the air is pumping into the vessel below the liquid level, INTRODUCING air into the lines when pressure bleeding. When I went to a syringe, no air anywhere, things got way better faster.

Parts Wanted vw 2180cc engine or similar 80-85hp

??? say more??? The heads I got from AeroVee last year, which use Empi castings, are way better than the 20 year old CB performance 041 heads my engine came with. The castings are more accurate, cleaner, the air passages are wide and clean around the exhaust valves (an area where some...

Current Sensing for an Alternator-Dependent airplane

The Dynon Skyview in the plane is easily configured to do just that. I will Make It So. Once this airplane flies, but before I launch from NoCal to Oshkosh, I think I will put in a lithium secondary battery using Bob Ideas. I'm trying to avoid mods, any mods (well, any MORE mods...), between...

Current Sensing for an Alternator-Dependent airplane

Stock Aerovee uses "magnetron" modules from an obsolete Briggs and Stratton 2 cylinder opposed flathead engine for the "Primary" ignition. It's self generating, self triggering, and occasionally prone to mysterious failures that no one understands. It also has a fairly weak spark. The...

Current Sensing for an Alternator-Dependent airplane

Now that I have two electronic ignitions, and NO self-generating magneto-like ignitions on my Aerovee Sonex, I'm a little concerned about my SINGLE 20 amp permanent magnet alternator (we will argue some other time about whether this was a good idea, I had my reasons, but I DO NOT advocate...
