What did you do on your airplane project today?

Fab an aluminum grommet, bond it to the oratex with ca (as per the manual). Place a vinyl patch (already cut to shape) on the backer then tape it up, x-acto 1/16 around the patch, then use it for the mask. I embed the vinyl backside with 5200, then lightly apply some to the scuffed covering...

What did you do on your airplane project today?

Wet sanded the rv4 wing yesterday. Today I'll be shooting them with one of Hondas silver formulas and laying down the clear on it. Hopefully I'll have the invasion stripes blems airbrushed today too. Tomorrow I get to put the star and bar on the bottom.

Licence-Built Luftwaffe - Postwar Copies of WW2 German Planes

Nice sentiment, I used to say the same but, no one knows anything about the "past" anymore..... were repeating "it". Those that remember, events, the turning points and actions that brought about the massive destruction and loss of life are now in the minority, and the new-er generations are...

Licence-Built Luftwaffe - Postwar Copies of WW2 German Planes

"License’ may be a bit of a stretch. More like, “You beat us up for a bunch of years so we’re taking your stuff. " Nailed it... swords into plows, no sense in wasting usable good engineering. Although I'd imagine many Israeli's received a fair bit of heart burn when they saw 109's buzzing...

To what out-of-production aircraft would you buy the rights, if you wanted to start a 'kit-plane' company?

Yup... I got mine.... but it's a cavern inside... nothing like a cardinal. Full cabin welded steel cage and cf cantilever wing... Martin was raising funds to go certified, maybe thats why be did such a poor job marketing it, then he died. MX did exactly what this thread is about... they bought...

Ya.... a 375hp 550 is very tempting there are many out there and reasonably priced... but I wouldn't exactly call them robust. Shock and cam gear issues make me suspect this is why cirrus's are equipped with brs units... The es/mako has a 540 mount with the retracting nose gear, now that would...

To what out-of-production aircraft would you buy the rights, if you wanted to start a 'kit-plane' company?

Respectfully not correct.... unlimited hydros destroyed way more merlins than air racing ever thought of....

    The 580 looks promising...

We've already been the turbine route.... insurance, if you can get it, it's stratospheric, and that was liability only. It's just not an option for us anymore. The other issue is just how gawdawfull ugly it makes it.

I respectfully request your opinions about power plant. The as supplied engine mount is for an io550.... I'd like a turbo for normalized flight over mountainous terrain... I know there's a twin turbo 550..... but should I be considering a tio540 instead? Why? Why not?

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement gents.
