    Sandlin Gliders: Builds, mods, flights

You can tie those lines with tension using a Round Turn and Two Half Hitches. It will make it easier if you have a second set of fingers or a clamp to hold the cord against the tube to maintain the tension while you put in the half hitches.

Blended wing ACs are coming !

Don't forget the difficulty of performing maintenance on those engines mounted on top of the fuselage compared to engines hanging under the wings close to the ground.

    New Zealand

It's been a long time since I was in NZ but I also rented a plane for an hour of dual time local sightseeing. I can't remember the name of the airport and my log book is in different state right now. It was a grass strip on the North Island. I'd do that again. You might take a look at the New...

    Sport Pilots Association

The attached 2022 statistics from FAA.gov indicate there are less than 7000 active Sport Pilot certificate holders compared to 164,346 Private Pilots. The only smaller category is Recreational Pilot at 79, that number is down from 238 in 2013. The total number of active pilot certificate...

    Pre-buy on sub $30k aircraft?

There are untold numbers of airplanes out there that you couldn't afford if someone gave you one. I agree with the others that said a "Fresh Annual" means nothing. I would not buy any certified plane without a pre-buy inspection by an IA that has never seen the plane before and has never met...

The EAA is offering a webinar on Panel Planning and Wiring for home builders on Jan 22. It can be accessed through the EAA or the FAA Safety website. If you have a panel yet to build on your plane this might be helpful...

Your opinion on an altimeter ALT20IMF-3 from Falcon Gauges

I'm very happy with my UMA Airspeed, Altimeter and VSI.

    Stainless Steel Firewalls

I used .020" titanium sheet from McMaster-Carr and saved several pounds over the stainless firewall blank supplied with my kit. McMaster has a couple different grades of titamium, some really expensive, at least one pretty reasonable. The titanium was easy to cut and drill with a pair of snips...

    Ultralight covering prep tips

I used the Anti-Chafe tape but it doesn't look or feel much different than the old style heavy cloth medical tape. I don't know why the medical tape would not work, assuming you can find it.

Buying, finishing, and registering largely finished but uncertified projects

Good info from Charlie and Ron. In addition, if you have not already done so, I suggest you contact a local Designated Airworthiness Representative. The EAA can help you with that, either a through a local chapter or using the search tool on the EAA website. The DAR is the one that will inspect...

    New Build Russia AC-4KC

That's a nice looking glider iAlex. Congratulations on completing your build. I had an AC-4 for a few years and really liked it, not the best performer going long distances but great thermalling in weak lift and fun to fly. Hope you enjoy it.

    Plexus vs Pledge?

I have a polycarbonate (Lexan) windshield on my plane. It scratches much easier than acrylic plastic. I switched to Brillianize plastic cleaner a while back and have been very happy with it. I switched because the polycarbonate manufacturer recommended Brillianize for cleaning. Much cheaper...

    New here!

If you haven't already done so, you should check out the local EAA chapter(s) in your area. Go to a monthly meeting, you won't need an invitation, and ask them about Flight Instructors in the area that are Experimental friendly. There will probably be some other builders that can help you decide...

New Member - Two Place Taildragger on Amphibs

I built/own a Highlander. I fly and instruct floats and amphibs but have only flown my Highlander on wheels. If you haven't already done so, go to the Just Aircraft Forum and do a search for "Amphib". You'll find lots of discussions that should be helpful. You should also be able to contact...
