    Pietenpol Scout

This Pietenpol Scout was built by Jean Paul Gagnon in 1984. Franklin 65 powered. It is currently not airworthy. The wing tips have damage (scraped in a ground loop) and need repair. I have 2 Ford blocks and a corvair engine that would go with the plane if so desired. The Franklin was...

High compression pistons in continental a65

On those rocker arms, it's a little more involved than just changing the bushing. The axis of the the rocker arm tip must be parallel with the axis of the rocker arm bushing when it's all done. The old valve grinding machines had an attachment on them to accomplish the job.

    Marvel Schebler Carbs

To H8053H: As I tried to state in your original post (in another thread), change the nozzle as per the bulletin, updating your carb to the -1 model, and your rough-running problem will possibly be fixed. But keep in mind that your carb is sized for an 0-200. It may not work well with your...

    Marvel Schebler Carbs

The 10-2971 carburetor was for a 150 horsepower 6 cylinder Franklin engine of 335 cubic inches displacement. It's primary venturi part number was A46-A33, main venturi part number A46-A65, nozzle and power jet assy A47-668, and economizer jet A49-A65. The venturi part numbers are for the...

Hi Tony, After talking to a person in the accessory business, I found out that the carb you have was superceded by the A10-4894-1 carb, the difference being that the -1 carb had the improved nozzle. So maybe you can give that a first try. Go to the Marvel Schebeler web site at...

    Continental A65 /A75 Parts

Tony, To answer your question, yes, the MA3 SPA was used on the 65 Continentals. Some of the internal parts were different than the MA3 SPA used on the 0-200 Continental. The part number of the carb used on the 65 was A10-2948. That carb took primary venturi part number A46-461 and main...

    Continental A65 /A75 Parts

That carb you have, by the way, is for an 0-200. Not that it won't work, but it isn't matched as well as it should be to an A-65.

    Continental A65 /A75 Parts

Here's a picture looking up through the carb. This is an old MA-3, with the 2 piece venturi. My guess is that you have a one-piece venturi because of this note I just found in the original MA-4 AD: "Carburetors having the one-piece combination primary and main venturi installed are identified...

    Continental A65 /A75 Parts

Hi Tony, I can't tell by the numbers, but if you take the airbox off of the carb you can determine what it has. Get a good flashlight and look up through the bottom of the carb. The Marvel carbs have a venturi within a venturi and a fuel nozzle aimed in the middle. If the big venturi is...

    Continental A65 /A75 Parts

...So before you start tearing the engine apart, look at the carburetor first. That AD applicability of the one-piece venturi on the MA-3 carburetors was rescinded because of all the troubles it was causing. (It still applies to the MA-4 carbs).

If a mount is made with the lugs spaced to the Franklin dimensions, it will work out. One critical dimension that isn't given is the length of the spacer sleeves. I take it that the sleeves run cup washer to cup washer and control the .26" gap dimension. What does the tube bear against in the...

    Continental A65 /A75 Parts

Does your Marvel carburetor have the original 2 piece venturi or was it changed at some point to the one-piece venturi? That could be the source of your engine roughness.

    franklin 2a 120

Hi Victor, Here is a drawing of how Franklin Engines envisioned the mounting system for their engine. You have to study it carefully, but the mount bolt (one long bolt per side) goes through a couple of spacer tubes that hold the whole works together at a specified "crush" of the rubber...
