    Wood to steel

    I have asked myself this questions years ago when I was considering a steel tube fuse Jodel D150. But gave up since the wood build does behave much more like a composite shell other than a steel tube truss. Using composite I would end up with a much heavier airframe though.

    Building a 912 Turbo here.. main points are Fuel pressure is airbox pressure +0,2bar, so ditch the mechanical fuel pump, Twin oil pump (scavenge pump for the turbo) Small turbo oil sump An intercooler is very very desirable Carburetor jets two sizes larger (have to check the final diameter)

    Engine swap c90 vs o-200

    0200 or C90 with C90 cam and higher compression (C85) pistons. Lighter than Lyc, probably more expensive.

    New CNC heads

    A better approach would be 3d printed head, could be done in aluminum, stainless, titanium or even inconel... Some pos processing would be required though. Probably much less expensive than CNC machined from a billet.

    Tacking with TIG is much easier than using stick. You have so much control and really can see what you´re doing. No experience with MIG, though.

    Since 2002 here in Brazil Embraer manufactures an ag plane named Ipanema (after Rio´s beach and music Girl from Ipanema) that is ethanol powered. Its engine is a Lyc 540 injected.
