Random steam powered thread I came across

https://steamautomobile.com:8443/ForuM/read.php?1,28123 I was googling if micro-turboexpanders were actually a thing that were used on consumer refrigeration systems. I suspect this topic has been rehashed a million times, but that thread had lots of interesting and entertaining references so...

    A/C Air Conditioning

Yeah, probably the car sitting close to the ground in a city heat island.

    A/C Air Conditioning

Good question - I'm going to do some sleuthing because that's something I'd like to find out myself.

    A/C Air Conditioning

3M makes some high quality tints that can reflect almost all the IR and UV. I had some put on the car I had in the 2000's, and it made a profound difference. It allowed like 95% of visible light through too, so you could hardly tell. The interior went from super-sauna to only slightly warmer...

    1 000 km/h speed with a prop plane ?!

I wish the Republic XF-12 Rainbow would have been adapted to turboprops before the project was scrapped. That would have been awesome. I think Elon should adapt a rocket turbopump design to turn a prop and just go for a record, personally, Howard Hughes style.

    1 000 km/h speed with a prop plane ?!

It could probably be made as reliable as the salt flat racer for short bursts? It is the nearest reference for an automotive sized engine pushing the absolute boundaries for any sort of "extended" period of time, and it is probably nowhere near the (single) power output required to go past mach...

I'm going to find some flight training, and want to build an electric goat: I have actually been up in sailplanes many times but always get insanely sick. The couple of times I've been up in a general aviation plane I was fine. There is something about getting way overheated and being bounced...

Made me look up the fastest piston powered car: 470 MPH! Speed Demon is the fastest piston-driven car on Earth

    1 000 km/h speed with a prop plane ?!

Okay, I’ll shut my pie-hole. I didn’t think we were going to see transonic or supersonic props anytime soon. I just think the research looks promising that it is something doable down the road, and that’s exciting to me.

    1 000 km/h speed with a prop plane ?!

It turns out that physics aren't simple, and sometimes it takes time to understand them and meet certain engineering challenges.

    1 000 km/h speed with a prop plane ?!

No, I'm saying natural scientific progress is getting closer to being able to make it work and not be noisy.

    1 000 km/h speed with a prop plane ?!

A lot of the reason of renewed interest in propfan or unducted fans is that our knowledge of aerodynamics and CFD has caught up enough to theoretically make a quiet transonic prop (as well as available modern compute - same reason for the renew of deep learning in AI). The mechanism of lift...

I'm in the same boat, and don't really know anyone nor have been able to find someone even semi-local who can train. I want to build an electric ultralight out of CF where I can extend the wings to essentially be human powered flight speeds, and slowly increase the limits by taking off the...

    In side out Wankel engine.

What do you think about "e-soaring"?

I've been following solar power and boat builds for a while. A solar ground effect plane would be interesting.

    Mosquito XE: What a Blast!!!

Sorry for the bump from the abyss, but the multi-tail-rotor concept is genius! You could electronically add so much control with those.
