    chotia 460

I have had many hours of flying behing, er, under a Chotia 460 when I way-back-when owned a Weedobber B model with a Square head Chotia. This engine did not produce it's claimed 20 HP but was unique in that it was a direct drive engine manufactured by the company the produced the Weedopper...

    Lightest (successful) aircraft

Somehwere in my library (lord knows where!) there was a short article in Ultralight Magazine (circa early 80's)about John's desire to build a flying wing called the "shiney-Fast". Really wierd and silly name but then again so was Weedhopper way back when! Ha! The article had an artists...

    Quicksilver MXII

Thank you all for your inquiries. I am interetsed in selling or trading my Quicksilver project. I have not assembled this machine as I had stated it will not fit in my hangar (converted horse barn) alongside my Corben Jr. Ace. That and I am so busy with so many other projects as I am also a...

    Lightest (successful) aircraft

Noticed your thread about the Weedhopper and John Chotia. I went to a Job Interview at Weedhopper just after John died in the Rocket. I had the opportunity to see his small factory in Ogden, UT. It was quite something to see especially in those early days. I was really impressed by their...

    Quicksilver MXII

1983 Quicksilver 2-seat ultralight/sport pilot project. Low hours Rotax 503. Alway stored disaasembled. New seat covers, good sails. Reinforced spars. Many parts powder coated. Lots of spare parts. Reason: It won't fit in my hangar with my Corben Ace. I will send photos to interested persons...

    Recovery system

Yep, the hand deploy types of recovery chutes went by the way side as soon as the balistic types came onto the market. I worked in the parachute business as an Engneering draftsman and graphic designer in the 80's and 90's when all of this stuff was coming to the fore. Proud to talk of my days...

    Rotax 503?????

Wally, That is too coincidental. I'm the guy with the Cuyuna. Ha! The Cuyuna wasn't enough power for the Quicksilver. I needed more than the 35HP the Cuyuna provided, hence the reason I'm offering it. I have it stored in a dry place with oil in the crankcase to preserve the seal integrity.

    Rotax 503?????

Dana, there are in fact some 503's out there pretty cheap. Me, I just bought a 503 for $350.00 and it runs beautifully. Came from a wrecked snowmobile. Complete with carbs and exhaust. Depends on where you look and how badly the seller needs cash. Yes, they are heavy and mucho fuerte...

Do two strokes inherently have to have oil in the gas?

I'm gonna look around for an old book from the 1940's that showed a German Designed 2-stroke that used straight gasoline for cumbustion while the crankcase had it's own oil supply, similar to a 4-stroker. I recall that there was no real advantage to the design as to it's weight being right up...

    Quicksilver struts?

Dear Mstull, I've a bit of experience working with Lexan. I'm interested in knowing and seeing how you used the .020 Lexan as streamlining material for struts. I worked in aviation for many years, mainly in the parachute/delivery system biznez and we used Lexan in many places as a stiffener...

    Quicksilver struts?

Although I've not gone over the wings thorougly yet, the original owner claims he had added some sort of strengthening mod. What I failed to mention in my original post was that this machine is 2-seat model. The tail is self supporting with tubing from the bottom of the rudder to the frame...

    Quicksilver struts?

I recently came to own an 80's Quicksilver MX2. I have a small problem in that the kingpost is so tall that I am unable to store the plane in my hanger that I converted fron an old horse barn. I would like to know if anyone has ever strut braced the wings of this design successfully. From...
