Will a Stratford upper surface provide or improve 'foils with high Cl, low Cm, and MILD stall?

What is effect of flat vs convex lower surface for a low reynolds # [1-2M], mild stall, & low Cm airfoil?

Why does the Cmac change directions 4-5 times with angle of attack on web site computer graphs? Example, ARA-D foil. Cmac plots from wind tunnel tests are much more stable.

    Jet A VW Engine Development

Any one know of a type I VW 1500-1600cc air cooled engine converted to liquid cooled heads? I do not mean the later VW "Boxer" engine.

    U/L airfoil selection

I'm no where near "closing out the TE". I have not even chosen an airfoil(s), thus Sw. I don't want to use flaps, as I have said before, due to constructing extra mechanisms, extra weight [it is weight limited], and greater tail moment requirements for the greatly increased flap pitching...

    U/L airfoil selection

It does not have to be perfect scale, it only must LOOK like it [Stand -off scale?] My success does not depend on other's failures. [note the Wright Bros. didn't] I do not want to paint up an existing U/L to look "like" a fighter. I can build a wing that won't warp. Spoilers don't look right...

Because someone here reccomended it, along with the ARA-D.

    U/L airfoil selection

I.E. building a fixed wing, using the ARA-D airfoil. Will this [helicopter] airfoil be ok with ailerons?

    U/L airfoil selection

Are there any reasons why one would not use ailerons on a 'copter rotor airfoil (ARA-D) used on a fixed wing a/c?

    U/L airfoil selection

Anyone have wind tunnel, empiracle, or actual use information on the ADA-D 20% 'FOIL? If not, which program is the most accurate compared to real flight specs?

    U/L airfoil selection

WounderousMountain: thanks for the August 160 , Goe 741 and Ara-D graphs. They are not identified - which is which?

    Sky pup?

I have studied SkyPup plans, and viewed many owner's internet posts. I would increase crash worthyness by adding plywood skins from the nose to the seat back. Classic sandwich, adding little weight. Also, make sure the landing gear wood beam is STRAIGHT GRAINED.

    U/L airfoil selection

Dear Skyscooter, I probably am over thinking the entire design, again because of lack of experience, but I am determined to build and fly what will be a very impressive aircraft. Thanks again.

    U/L airfoil selection

Dear Skyscooter, thank you for the commonsense advice, I do appreciate it. I will seriously & carefully consider it. I will apply it & see what results.

    U/L airfoil selection

Dear Skyscooter, It is a REPLICA low wing fighter, with a tapered wing, so a 15-18% straight wing would not look right.

    U/L airfoil selection

To the other poster [PP?] who's kind words are appreciated, you CAN successfully build a replica fighter U/L. SkyPup had a 31' 128sq ft cantilever high wing. It weighed 195 lbs, with only 20 hp, leaving 59 lbs to ad to the design. A person showed detailed photos on line of sucessfully...

    U/L airfoil selection

Thank you Skyscooter - If I can't find a suitable 'foil, I may have to resort to flaps, but I'd rather not add the weight, increased demands on the wing structure & empanage, complexity [in construction & in flight] of flaps. All the flapped lift curves I've seen have sharp stalls. Is the Vs...

MH-82 Cm is even more erratic! [so says the airfoil computer].

    U/L airfoil selection

To WonderousMountain, Thanks for the ARA-D graphs, but it seems to have a Cm of about .037 @ Cl .4, @ 0 degrees & the Cm seems to be unstable, erratic. Is the MH 82 any better?
