    10/23 Raptor Video

Well I think this is the best case scenario. We all knew (on HBA) that plane sooner or later was coming down without power. It will never fly again, and nobody got hurt.

    10/23 Raptor Video

Pretty sure he flew off the 40 hours doing figure 8's around the airport. Looks like he is heading West to California. Pretty slow though, 120kts @3500ft.

    Quiet Flight

Based on my limited experience / knowledge, it looks like having the internal perforated pipe causes too much back pressure for a rotary engine at those RPMs, which decreases HP/increases EGTs. Although effective at reducing noise, costs speed. So I've come across another design where they...

    Quiet Flight

Well after 30 hours, the inside pipe started to cavitate on itself. It's 2.75" 321ss 0.050" thick. I drilled about twice the area of 2.75" of holes, hoping to reduce back pressure. Sadly I didn't really get a chance to measure. What would be a good next step, get thicker gauge and drill more...

    Exhaust within subcowl

Sorry my posts are so sporadic on this. I live in Canada but built the plane in FL, so I'm not around it much (specially now). When I do go down to work on it, it's 16hrs in the hanger, sleep and repeat. No computer time. I'm hoping to fly it back to Canada this spring, where I can go for an...

    Exhaust within subcowl

After 15hours, my 321ss slip joint bellow cracked at the accordion folds. I think there was too much movement in the long exhaust under the plane, guessing my rubber exhaust mounts could be better. I ordered a new slip joint bellow from SPD exhaust which is 625 inconel for the accordion folds...

Canada - Journey book - Annual Maintenance record

Thanks Dan for the detailed response. I do already have the 'Check list' of 625 Appendix B and removed any items that do not pertain. And also have my Out of Phase list. They were required with MD-RA before first flight. That's why I wasn't sure what to actually write in the Journey Log. I...

Canada - Journey book - Annual Maintenance record

For my Canadian amature homebuilt, the annual maintenance record go in the Journey book, correct? I have the initial comment during building, "This aircraft will be maintained in compliance with CAR 625, Appendices B&C" in there. I saw on MD-RA site it says all technical records for airframe...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

It did happen awhile ago before listening to people about having counterbalances on the control surfaces. During a high speed taxi run, got to fast and the side sticks were slamming back and forth. You can clearly see his face and body reactions to it, he's not test pilot material.... He reacted...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Peter's ego is hurt. Sadly, we know the path this is headed down. Like Wasabi said.

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

I'd be pissed if I was Justin & Elliott for the way they are portrayed in the video title / bashing comments. Making it sound like "I (Peter) made the call, and the test pilots don't know what they are talking about." Even though within the video he said he's taking the advice of the test...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

I have a question. With the CNC plugs, I thought there would be min body work being all machined / digital / autocad, etc.... This is going back years ago when they were doing the body work, been meaning to ask this. How come so much body work afterwards?

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

I'm not sure I can put in words what I'm thinking, but to me I find this more interesting from a human study point of view on success. Following this and the Dark Aero build, (not comparing the planes, or what they are claiming performance numbers to be, just how they run their project /...

    Exhaust within subcowl

Success with the header muffler. Design was a bit tricky to come up with a design plan with the welder but we finally got things going. I got about 1.5hrs on it so far and I'd say it's comparable now to a typical aircraft engine. I can talk to the test pilot even during take off. Even can start...

    Exhaust within subcowl

I got one off Amazon for 15 bucks. The cell phone mic's really aren't worth a poop for dBA measuring. The previous exhaust with just an Aero Turbine 2525XL, measured ~113dBA. With it removed, was closer to 120dBA. Funny around 2000 prop rpm (6340 engine rpm) was louder then at 2300 (7291 engine...

    Exhaust within subcowl

So I haven't even be able to try any of this out yet. Spent the last year getting the airworthiness. Have 5 hours of flight and the exhaust it just to plain loud. Following https://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forums/threads/quiet-flight.6560/page-3#post-69866 has lead me to change my exhaust...

    Quiet Flight

I quickly put a sketch together. I'm assuming the holes in the inner pipe, you want the area to be twice the area of the exiting pipe. 2.5" in my case. And will try not to put the holes in the path of the primaries. Let it swirl around first before getting pushed out the middle. Couldn't find...

    Quiet Flight

I'm going to build this in Jan. Just sourcing out the 321. Did you end up going with 5"? 4" is all I can find so far, in either 16ga or 20ga.

No Audio after the two test pilots jump in the plane without Peter around. Interesting.....

    Neil Unger's PSRU -> running

Not to much to report yet. After a bunch of delays, finally got my inspection in the summer. So far I have 10hours of flight and won't get back to it for a few more months. After I fly off the hours, I'll break down the PSRU and look for wear. We had a few troubles with the rubber in the cushion...
