    Thielert going bankrupt?

Those are systems that are at minimum needed to keep the engine running, not just 'add ons'. No, we don't but you want to keep it flowing in the fuel lines. But why use fuel that gels and thickens when temps drop and needs extra systems and heat to keep it flowing where winterdiesel and...

    Thielert going bankrupt?

Agreed, but its not very practical or safe in aircraft use. Extra systems to heat and filter the wvo add weight, complexity and this no problem in a car. But in aircraft this is not want you want, the fuel must withstand low temperatures by its own properties. Even biodiesel and road diesel...

    Thielert going bankrupt?

Waste cooking oil can only be used reliably as fuel when it is transformed to biodiesel. It will foul up the injectors and piston rings if run without any processing or cleaning. There are a number of sites explaining this process.

    Thielert going bankrupt?

@PTAirco: You are absolutely right, their pricing was outrageous high. If they sold this engine for half the price they would have sold a lot more and earned back the develoment cost sooner. Another thing: Why develop such a heavy engine (135Kg, ~270 lbs dry) with only 135 hp? Its performance...

    Thielert going bankrupt?

I would not be too surprised if Cessna buy the remains of TAE and continues development of the engines.

    Thielert going bankrupt?

They might go bankrupt.... There are investigations going on into the actions of Frank Thielert himself and the financial director of TAE. They are both sort of fired from the company. It looks as if they commited fraud to get more money from banks and investors and made them believe there were...

Checking oil on a cold Rotax 912

Well, no. There is no MAG (with the dangers that come with handpropping an engine with MAGs) on a Rotax. These engines have an electronic ignition. Switch that off and you are fine. The ignition doesn't generate any sparks when turning the prop by hand. The engine needs at least 220 rpm to...

Checking oil on a cold Rotax 912

Not that I know off. Dont worry, you won't break the prop. And if it does, it wasn't a good one to begin with. You can use gloves to protect your fingers though and keep them clean.

    Electronic ignition

Thanks for your reply. I'v just started this project, gathering information on engines. At the same time finishing up on a RV-7A, belongs to a friend. We installed a Aerosance FADEC on his engine, an IO-360. Runs great but it was a heck of a job installing that FADEC... So thats the reason I'm...

    Electronic ignition

Hi All, I'm building a Murphy Elite and the choice for an engine still has to be made. One of the options is a Superior XP-320 160HP. Thing that bothers me is that I want an electronic ignition but is it going to be a Lasar or LSE? Do any of you have some experience with either the Lasar or...

Hydraulic or elecric for a prop?

I meant with East Euro props: propellers from east european countries. I'v seen some props from Kremen that were really bad after some hours flying. I think that in this case paying more money for a propeller really means more bang for the buck..

    JetA piston engines

Zoche I'm going to visit AERO 2007 in Friedrichhafen next april, expect to see him (herr Zoche) sitting in a corner with a mockup engine again like he did the last two times I went there..

Hydraulic or elecric for a prop?

props Personally, my experience with an electric prop is that some of them are constructed so cheap that they fail within 100 hours. East Euro props are known for that. Gears completely worn out after a couple of hours, real bad stuff and a tbo of 500 hours too.. The only good electric props...
