    Basic Design Question

Last night I was reading the thread where the guy wanted to build a plane out of duct tape and cardboard. Somebody else mentioned that they made a bet that they could build a plane with only stuff bought from Home Depot. I was intrigued by this idea, and I want to do it with this plane. It'll...

    Basic Design Question

Ya, I'll go with the aluminum spars instead then. Do you think that this wing system will work? I'm going to do it all with wood except the spars (unless anything else comes up). I drew up a simple picture today of what it might end up looking like. If there is anything wrong with it (which...

    Basic Design Question

Since I originally asked about a wooden spar, I've come up with a new idea. I did a really crappy drawing of it in paint. Hopefully it isn't too confusing. Basically, there is a box centered width-wise on the fuselage. There are two steel poles going width-ways (in relation to the body of...

    Basic Design Question

I'm looking into designing my own simple ultralight. It will be made mostly of wood (that's why I'm posting this here). I have a few questions: 1.What are the main points that need to be taken into account for a good design? 2. For a really, slow, light, low flying plane, would a thick...

    Stalls

so im gonna use the affordaplane for example. According to it's site, it's stall speed is 27 mph. Would the plane stall if the chord was horizontal to the wind, but the engine was running slow enough to only be going about 27 mph? thanks again

    Stalls

I was wondering if stalls are caused by having too great an angle of attack, then what does speed have to do with it, and what is the stall speed of a plane? Thanks

    tilted

    tilted

don't laugh at me, but a i am justing wonder why planes have longer landing gear in the front to keep the front tilted up on the ground is it just to keep the prop off the ground? thanks

    Building Update

wings in the pictures, it seems to show you cutting your wing cores out of the foam by yourself. Is that an easy process? Could you explain how you did it?

    basic wing design

ok thanks for the help, i was wondering because if it doesn't taper, than you can get a larger wing surface with the same root chord length

    basic wing design

i am wondering why airplane wings are usually tapered? There's a reason other than looks isn't there?

    ultralight design

nice that's very interesting. i was wondering if it was going to be like the facetmobile. I think those planes are awesome! Be sure to post some pics of when both planes are complete and im sad to hear about that death, bye

    ultralight design

how far are you on building the a-plane, and do you have a drawing or pic of what your lifting body plane will look like, even if it's just a sketch or idea?
