    New buzzwords/slogan for aviation

Safety 3rd if you put safety first you get nothing accomplished or in our case have no fun. After all third is still pretty high on the list

    503 weak pulse?

pressure testing crankcase? I can envision a manifold pressure gauge being used but do you motor the engine pull it through by hand or is it a static test done with pressure applied and a leak-down measurement taken? if rotax gives any guidance on this do you have the doc number I can look it...

    Stiffen a steel tube

consider a adding a slight bend or bow to the tube this can add quite a bit of strength of course you will have to rebuild the part.

    503 weak pulse?

fitting not blocked. we recently had the crank pinned through it and we blew through the pulse line to listen for leaks and blockage. Pretty sure theres no reed valves in the 503. could the crank seals be so bad that there would be no pulse?

    503 weak pulse?

I have reasonable amount of experience maintaining and flying rotax 2 strokes. But I'm kinda stumped. I have a friend with a 503 on a challenger who can't seem to get a pulse pump to work. The lift isn't far from the tank to the carbs. Engine seems to run fine with the ticker pump running but...

Aerovee engine in Zenith STOL CH 701

Consider a two stroke. Rotax 582 would be on the low end of the HP range but i have personally flown a 582 powered Rans S6 from 1800 ft grass two up. The rotax two storkes are in my opinion a better alternative to VW not just on power to weight alone but in reliability. With a good...

    Ferguson Elevator flutter?

Two cables on the trim tab. Tension is around 10 lb. The flutter is really more like a shake. Feedback into the stick is felt but not extreme. Not sure if the prop wash is having an effect on it or not maybe next time i go fly i will shut it down and check to see if it wants to shake when its...

    Ferguson Elevator flutter?

2 Struts. Built by Bob Leatherwood of Dallas GA. I think also with help from Bill Ferguson at Bills place. I tightened pitch trim cables during the annual but highly suspect the tirm tab is too long "Chord" and is flexing back and forth. Really think tightening/stiffening things up back there...

    Ferguson Elevator flutter?

I recently bought a Ferguson FII-A. If youre not familiar with it. Well it looks exactly like a Kolb. Just dont tell Bill Ferguson that. I beleive it shares some similarities of flight charictaristics with a Kolb from what i have read about them. I have been experiencing what i think is a low...

Let's stop kicking the can down the road on 2 stroke failures

Just stick with a rotax. Maintain it in accordance with up to date instructions which are free and go burn gas

2 Stroke Fuel & Oil Hoses

Forget the clear. It all must be replaced too often. Almost any local part store will have good quality fuel hose. I prefer gates barricade it has a green stripe. It is good with ethanol and will last. Besides how many pipers and cessnas do you see clear fuel lines on. None cuz you don't need to...

    Blue Max oil

Are there any engines I should just stay away from? I'm shopping for an experimental.

Re: Are there any engines I should just stay away from? I'm shopping for an experimen If you want to fly a little and tinker a lot then there are lots of options. If you want to fly a lot and tinker a little or pay someone else for maintenance skip all the rest and pony up for tried an true...

    Rotax 503

I have a rotax 503 with less than 100 hours since new. No gearbox and no starter cover I guess you could call it a long block. Have carbs with it. It came with a ferguson F-IIA That I purchased. Previous owner said he couldn't make it idle so he bought a new engine. After I purchased it I was...

converting points to cdi on rotax 447

Too expensive by the time you purchase all the parts you could buy a newer engine. Maybe even 503

    503 Rehab

I guess it was a comment more than a question, but i have been getting to make all these upgrades to the airplane and just had to vent a bit of my excitement to someone. Im kinda surprised i havent gotten more replies, if any thing just for others to vent about some work they're getting to do to...

New Gates Fuel line woo hoo!!!

Ok so finally Gates has introduced a new fuel line called Barricade it has green text on the jacket, is good for 225 Psi, combatible with bio-fuels (read ethanol or bio diesel). Just installed a bunch on a Rans S-6. Dang no less than thirty feet of fuel lines in that thing. Its a bit pricey...
