    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

My friend suggested adult diapers! If the average fuel flow is 11.8 GPH, and we carry 62 gallons, that gives us a no reserve range of 5.25 hours. Or, 4+15 with a one hour reserve. I can make 4 hours on a good day! 3 hours is pretty easy.

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

So...a Mea Culpa is in order here. We did not top off the tanks at our destination. And my pilot figured the fuel burn for the entire flight, which threw the numbers way off. I just now caught this. Total time was 4.5 hours, burning 53.2 gallons. Actual average hourly fuel flow was 11.82 gph...

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

I have the latest ENR from David Clark, DC One X. It does a good job. Have not flown with it in the Mustang yet.

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

The fuel capacity is 62 gallons. The data shows consistent fuel flows of under 10 gallons / hour. Actually 9.3 is the overall average. And that is at 159 KIAS -193 MPH TAS at 4500'. So the range will not be determined by fuel, rather it will be determined by physiological requirements. And not...

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

It is a different airplane today vs the one that was destroyed in the crash. Many improvements have been made. And many corrections to the errors made during the initial build have been addressed. Overall a much better, much safer aircraft. We are forging ahead in Phase II. And I am learning...

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

On a 175 mile flight, the difference between 150 knots and 170 knots is only 6 minutes.

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

The plane has nearly 50 hours on it, all trouble free and without incident. Honestly we were surprised at these numbers. Our thinking was the fuel burn would have been much higher. Had we not verified the fuel consumption by doing three fuel stops, and keeping track of the actual gallons used...

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

P-51's burn 1 gal/min. If above FL240, or in high blower, or dogfighting, it's 2 gal/min. My friend who owns a P-51 stays below FL230 for this reason. The LS3 is very efficient. Burning less than I thought it would. And this is with 100LL. When I switch to 93UL, it will burn slightly less and...

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

If I'm out there burning holes in the sky, with no sense of urgency, 3200-3500 will be the setting. With the accompanying reduced fuel flow. But even at the high cruise rpm of 4200, the prop is only turning 1900 rpm. Like my friend, and fellow T-51 builder likes to say..."It's a Mustang. I...

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

Well...if speed is not your goal, then yes. 3500-3700 is Econ cruise. 4200-4400 is high speed cruise. For those times when fuel flow is not an object. The redline for the engine is 6500. My engineer said based on the data, and this engine / prop combination, 210 KTAS is on the table.

    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

Here are some performance numbers for you all to crunch. This data was gleaned during the 720 mile ferry flight to the paint shop. First let me point out that the atmosphere was extremely turbulent on this day. You had to climb over 10,000 MSL to get a good ride. But the higher you went, the...

    G3X Checklist Programming

I have Garmin Pilot on my iPad / iPhone. Checklists are all loaded on the app. Is there a way to upload the checklists from my Garmin Pilot on the iPad to the G3X? Or do you have to manually load each checklist in the G3X, line by line?

    B-29 Replica Takes Shape

I never realized there was only 6-8” prop clearance. We have seen “FiFi” many times, up close and personal. Guess I did not look close enough! Was based in Guam from 1994-1998. Flew in and out of GUM, and SPN frequently. We flew over Tinian hundreds of times. The runways are mostly grown over...

    B-29 Replica Takes Shape

I just found this, posted on FB, with the NTSB report. Did not realize the extent of the damage. Hope he can get the repairs done quickly, if he has not already. - NTSB issues the final report into the accident involving a 35% Tom Hodgson B-29 replica, N29XB, that struck a golf cart with a...

Swift Fuel Unleaded Causing Valve Problems? UND goes back to 100LL

Yes, I guess a bit of apples & oranges here, liquid vs air cooled. I will consult with Hutter Performance, as to the actual tuning for the air / fuel ratio. Trevor did enrich the mixture a bit, in the lower rpm range.

Swift Fuel Unleaded Causing Valve Problems? UND goes back to 100LL

My MoTeC ECU handles this task for us. It's automatic, based on all of the atmospheric inputs received by the various sensors. When the ECU is in full control, why would you need (or want) to adjust the mixture? I have no mixture control. Outdated, and not required in my application. And, I...

Swift Fuel Unleaded Causing Valve Problems? UND goes back to 100LL

For those of us with ECU controlled engines, the ECU handles the fuel/air mixture ratio. We have no direct control over it.
