    Twin teetering rotor.

The x2 is really cool. I think it may be a little above "homebuilding" capabilities.

    Twin teetering rotor.

Just thinking it might be easier for a homebuilder than a articulated rotor head. Might be a dumb idea as it's never been done commercially except on a couple of tail rotor design. End goal would be extra lift.

    Twin teetering rotor.

what would be a reason AGAINST a cascading main rotor similar to the tail rotor on the Apache?

    Scorpion 2

Looked at the other forum. Good ideas on the basic design.

    Scorpion 2

Has anyone looked into these plans? I'm wondering if you could build a quality ship woth uprades from the exec. Opinons please.

"Wet-Wing" vs Removable Tank, All Aluminum Construction

Oops. Forgot about oak formers to hammer rounded corners. But you are correct Steve. Finding a spot for a foam filled fuel cell would be optimal. But if you want a aluminum tank, that's how to do it. :)

"Wet-Wing" vs Removable Tank, All Aluminum Construction

One process to consider: Gas weld all the joints for a malleable tank. Coat the tank with smoke from acetylene, turn on oxy and burn of all the smoke to anneal the aluminum. Once the welding is done, tin the joints like you where preparing to apply lead to seal all the pin holes. Should end the...

    TIG issues

Start with your tungsten. You want a point with all the striations going linear down the tungsten. Use a piece of copper to start your arc. A gas lense shouldn't necessary with 4130 but wouldn't hurt. If you arc is wandering it's either the tungsten (striations going circular rather than linear...

Homing in on a dseign I like.

Kinda, but with a bigger wing on the front.

Forgive my artistic talents, or lack there of. This is what I want.

That's pretty well in line with my thoughts. Is foam core a good option of a ship this size. I was thinking more of a oversied Defiant with no front engine. Tha=en I could use the Defiant wing in the back and the vari/long easy in front. Saves on engineering.

Well, I don't want to build a Winnebago. But camping wise, If you had a small toilet area, it would be cool if you designed it so the seat could lay flat for 2 people to sleep in rather than popping a tent up. The idea of a tandem wing though stikres me as having a larger cg than a canrd...

Homing in on a dseign I like.

The Adam and Cessna are cool but I like the fighter plane/ Klingon battle cruiser idea. You could make thin efficient wings with fowler flaps and maybe Krueger slats for some heavy lift. The Starship engine layout may pose a problem. I don't think you can reverse the rotation of the TDI because...

Homing in on a dseign I like.

The 5 cylinder Audi TDI has 340 ft lbs of torque. I had a S4 in 1991 and it was a power house and ran like a sewing maching. I guess one prop to guard against assymetric thrust but I suppose I could put them close together ala the Starship. The toilet was at the request of "Mighty one" but...

So, I start with a pusher. Twin 5 cyl turbo diesels driving one shaft similar to the robinson set up. Tandem wings in roomy 6 pax fuselage with toilet. Rear wing similar in shape to the defiant with rudders on the tip sails mounted low in the back with a trapezoidal or delta wing above the pilot...

    Mid fuselage propulsion systems !

A question about vibration. Would it make sense if you had a pusher to use a torque tube for the drive shaft? Porshe 944 and 928 model use this. Basically about a 3" steel tube with bearings inside it. Hard mounting the motor and tranny together. Inside the tube runs a 1' or so dia drive shaft...

Odd Question: Wood Wings and Metal Fuselage on a Homebuilt

Marcel Jurca warbird replicas. Mustang, Spitfire and P-40 War Hawk. All wood wing and metal fuselage.

    Shaping metal

It's not reguired to purchase a tig welder for aluminum gas welding(Oxy-Hydrogen) works just fine.I have some flux for it in the garage right now. Gas is the first welding process to weld aluminum and the joint does not become brittle. look at some hot rod sheet metal books on how to make metal...
