    LS376-525 V8 Powered Mustang Data

It's just part of the genuine experience! P-51Ds are LOUD from the outside too, noticeably more so than a Spitfire MkIX (observation from recent air show). Which I found rather interesting given the similar nature of the powerplants.

    Turbo-normaliser question

I've come to realize that a significant proportion of people that ask for 'advice' are actually just looking for validation of a choice they've already made. What you tell them is therefore irrelevant...

    Pushers...way to go ?

I'm no expert on the matter, just familiar with the difficult history there.

    Pushers...way to go ?

I presume you have familiarized yourself with the history of extended drive shafts generally in aviation? You'll find most instances in failed projects. Not that it cannot be done (and it certainly has been) but there be dragons...

Best Material & Shape For Trim Tabs

A small gurney flap may do the trick. Tape a soda straw on to test?

Crashes in the News - Thread

Forget the tower, they nearly landed in a neighbourhood. Very odd.

Aeroplane not good for launching ?

The full Starship stack has flown only 3 times, not 29. And 100% success, while desirable, was not expected. Indeed, the complete destruction of the vehicles was planned in each case, despite what the doomsayers say. It is a hardware-rich test programme, not an operational one.

    Texas Toye: Update

When I see thin paint, I see light weight! Or possibly age... ☺️

Aeroplane not good for launching ?

😂 Yeah, they're really struggling... two launches yesterday, both with boosters returning to pinpoint landings.

Juan Brown & Scott Purdue on NTSB Docket Wings Over Dallas B-17 Mid-Air Collision Nov 2022

Looks like it was an accident waiting to happen, the way the airboss was operating.

    cooling fans

Good data, thanks. Have you thoughts on using coolant for aftercooling the intake air?
  12. Voidhawk9

    cooling fans

Right. In my case I'll have 2 rads with the engine between, so coolant has to be routed anyway, should be easy enough to pass through an oil-water cooler enroute.

    cooling fans

Wouldn't it be more efficient for dual-pass to add heat between passes - ie cool the oil with coolant between passes. Better delta-T for cooling the oil, better delta-T for the 2nd rad pass. In my mind at least this would remove more heat from the system. But I'm just an amateur.

    Boeing - Design Issues...

Yep, hopefully not just rearranging of chairs on the Titanic. Unfortunately it seems it may be, with positions being taken by the next-in-line managers complicit in this spiral-dive.

    Boeing - Design Issues...

Yes, a 787-8. Airline is blaming the pitch down (300ft lost briefly) on a technical issue, not turbulence.

Crashes in the News - Thread

Safer to do so with the gear up unless on a known good surface (ie a runway).

    New Zealand

I'm in the South Island of NZ. Love it here. The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Blenheim sounds like just your sort of place. Milford Sound, either by road or air is VERY highly recommended. Arguably one of the most beautiful areas in the country is the Mackenzie Basin - just over the...

    Rethinking Propellers?

Yep, great example. Same engine, new prop with more blades for more thrust and efficiency.
  20. Voidhawk9

    Rethinking Propellers?

Not when diameter and engine remain the same, only the prop has 2x the number of blades it originally did. The stated premise is false.
