    actually maule and aca use a combination of mig and tig including some tempered areas. bellenca built decathalons had issues with weld induced cracking causing wing seperation. those were un-tempered tig.

    Hi Terry, Yes that is standard practice with OA...although not the few inches part, usually just the HAZ of the original weld and is done before the weld cools to avoid distortion. Its a different practice and reason than post heating tig welds.

    I would say it depends on the location, how much material was removed and what aircraft. When in doubt be safe and install a split repair sleeve, of course after talking it over with the person that will be signing it off, as its really their call in any event.
