"We just hit a Drone!" | Windshield Damaged on United B737 MAX at SFO

I have hit a number of birds with jets in the past. There was never any doubt about what we hit if it was in the windshield. Birds leave bird parts and feathers splattered on the windshield. Drones were not around back when I was operating airliners. But I certainly enjoy the Drone section...

Not much. They kept eating and didn't pay any attention. Are you as dry there in Canada as we are here in Wyoming? Not squat for snow this year! And I mean didilee squat!! I hope the moisture comes, or this Summer we are going to burn like you guys did last Summer. 🙁

Warm snap here. Tested a new Mitchell oil temp powered by a magneto p-lead adapter. Works great! Looks and feels like Spring, but we know better. Saw probably 200 Elk today. 😀

    How Do You Stay Proficient?

Tim, very good point. I doubt there is any such thing as overly proficient. I used to fly for a major airline and flew a lot. I even flew myself to work across mountainous terrain from my home in Wyoming, to Salt Lake City, Utah, which was my base. In short I did a great deal of flying. On...

Low or mid wing spar position - pros and cons

Everybody who commented is right on and the subject is well discussed. A mid-wing position can limit your choice of where to locate the fuel. The description of hanging upside down with the airplane on top of you was excellent. TFF covers it well. He talks about visibility, and I agree...

ST-L (Ryan ST replica) builder photos and milestones

I flew mine out of VanAire and even Salida. It would go to 14,000 feet no sweat. I had the supercharged 160 h.p. C-4S Menasco. When I delivered it to its' new owner in Kansas on a late December day, it was dark and spitting snow when I landed, a real old time airmail experience. I was...

ST-L (Ryan ST replica) builder photos and milestones

I have watched your videos online and compliments to you for hitting the mark. I owned and rebuilt a full scale STA. I flew it for 200 hours. It is a super honest flying airplane with fine stall-spin and recovery characteristics. I very much liked the airplane. I spent 8 years putting that...

Biplane Lift Distribution - What’s Happening Here?

I think TFF is on it. Although not sure how the upper wing got so tight as to be down against the spar. Also if you go beyond 350 degrees on most Stitts or Ceconite, it will eventually cause the fabric to loosen. I under temped a set of ailerons by having an iron which did not make 350...

I should have qualified the above statement with the premise that increased thrust without a canceling gain in weight seldom hurts.

Increased thrust seldom hurts. I wonder what the thrust difference is between the O-320, O-360, and the Verner 9?

Great work Dom!! I was thinking about your CG issue and it came to me that our tailwheels are mounted further aft than on the Jungmeister. I have not yet looked hard at how we could engineer it but perhaps moving the position and using a bungee and pivot combination might be possible, lighter...

The reverse air scoop just aft of the firewall is the exhaust for oil cooler airflow. The oil cooler is situated sitting sideways to the airflow on the port side just aft of the firewall. You can see a squarish air scoop. The one to the rear of the roundel starboard serves no purpose that I...

    Jungster 1 & 2 aircraft

Right on Jim. Our neighbors returned from London yesterday and said the weather for their two weeks, was glorious! It rained here the whole time. I am anxious to see how this new prop works out. The previous was under pitched and too short. Even in climb at full power it was necessary to...
