I finally became a pilot, and now I'm completely confused about my future build.

Well the terrain can be pretty horrible. 80 percent of the country is mountainous, but the mountains are steep with no landing space for any kind of aircraft. 64 out of the 70 mountains are over 1000m, and out of those 20 are over 2000. Not exactly ideal. That makes me want a good glide ratio...

I'm from Macedonia. Rules are that there are no rules. On paper, we are part of europe's organizations. If you have friends in the right places, you can register anything. I do have friends. A reduction drive is not a problem for me, my father is actually a machinist and I have a friend with a...

I finally became a pilot, and now I'm completely confused about my future build.

I I really love the Sonerai, but is it good for a beginner? And a low glide ratio(at least I think it is) really makes me nervous because if an engine fails in my mountainous country, it's bad.

The engine can be changed, nothing is set in stone. It's weight is 140 pounds bare, so if it's too heavy, I can always sell it.

I posted on this forum a while ago, and everyone seemed to agree that Double Eagle was the best build for me. BUT, now that I've learned to fly, my horizons expanded and nothing is clear anymore. I found out a lot of the things that I was asking about. A few good sides to buildining here: Wood...

my gearbox first test run for V-twin engine

Actually, to correct myself, primary vibrations aren't a problem in a 90 degree v twin. The problems are the secondary vibrations from the uneven firing order. Wouldn't that fatigue the metal? Idk a V Twin never gives me peace of mind.

my gearbox first test run for V-twin engine

Can I ask you why did you choose a V-twin? I haven't built an airplane yet, but I've worked with many kinds of engines, and I hate V twins. The engines are so unbalanced that the engine mount bushings suffer, let alone in a place where balance is needed. Why didn't you go with a parallel twin...

Double Eagle or other alternative cheap and easy builds

Why do we think that we aren't in the EU then? Everything is FAR more complicated than that. Yes, we do have aspirations to become members of EU, but currently the laws are mixed, european and yugoslav. Just to give you an example of how f***** up our laws are: There have been cases where a guy...

We are probably very similar to Serbia.

Double Eagle or other alternative cheap and easy builds

We are not in European Union, so I doubt that anything of EASA strictly applies. I'll write some emails, see what I can come up with.

That means that I can use an automobile engine right?

Double Eagle or other alternative cheap and easy builds

I'm from Macedonia. I don't think that it's that complicated. People here are friendly, the laws aren't. I'll consult the guys at the agency first, take their suggestions.

When you put it like that it does make the most sense. Plus you've obviously got good taste since you have a fox terrier like me.

Hahahaha, this would be scary even for me, let alone the passengers. On the plus side, I'd feel like Aladdin with the flying carpet.

Isn't the Corvair a heavy engine? I'd rather put a PSA 1.6 hdi, it'll weigh the same, be more reliable and more economical.

We have the most idiotic laws possible. I've been reading the laws regarding amateur built aircraft, and the only thing I've found is this: Building and modifying an aircraft will be done according to the international technical standards. The builder has to notify the agency before starting the...

Double Eagle or other alternative cheap and easy builds

There are no local builders. I would be hailed by the media as if I was the first person to build an amateur rocket that went to the moon if I build this airplane. There was one faculty professor who built an airplane. I don't think he is available except for email. My options and constraints...

Double Eagle or other alternative cheap and easy builds

Is a specific steel alloy needed or any steel will do, because I am screwed if specific alloys are required. I'm having trouble with finding even regular tool steel like 1095 for my knifemaking here, and I end up paying a lot more money and ordering steel from other countries. Also, spruce is...

Double Eagle or other alternative cheap and easy builds

Again, just for clarification, I don't need big distances, just general flying and enjoying. Maybe skipping to the next town at max, but that max isn't a whole lot, around 100 km.
