The Janowski Project - Rethinking the J1B/J2/J3

Ok, I stand corrected, the copyright may not have expired however the designs are now in the public domain and are being shared for knowledge and education purposes. No one is selling anything or attempting to profit from this enterprise. All of my attempts to contact anyone with any attachment...

The Janowski Project - Rethinking the J1B/J2/J3

The plans are available in the first message of this thread. The design copyright has expired. You will have to check with your government agency to see if a an aircraft built from these plans can be registered without a serial number, or call it an original design and follow that process...

The Janowski Project - Rethinking the J1B/J2/J3

Hi There, Thread originator here checking in. There were no plans available for the J5, it was only available as a kit and not many imported to North America. If memory serves there were maybe a dozen ever registered in the US and Canada. The J6 is a similar story. I share your reservations...

The Janowski Project - Rethinking the J1B/J2/J3

Hi Ronnie, Welcome to the forum. Funny enough I have not checked in here in some months, life, work etc. This topic came up in discussion at our local airport today and I decided to check in. I wish you good luck in your decision to build a J2, that's fantastic! Please start a build thread...

Headwind on skis Love the engine sound

These videos are all taken at our local field not far from me. Dave is a friend and neighbour and has build several airplanes. It's great to see him out tearing it up with the Headwind. I saw the project in it's early stages but hadn't see the winter ski videos, Thanks for sharing!

    Electric Hybrid

We are in the hay day of an air mobility boom, great ideas, fantastic engineering awesome opportunities. Most of these companies will not survive the bust. Its a shame because some great tech will go by the weigh side. We need these companies to push the envelope and push the regulatory...

What could be done to reinvent the Affordaplane to a more homogeneous project?

Thank you for your input. The diagonal ribbon bracing is typical for stick built and aluminum wing rib construction as well so not unique to the thermo formed ribs. Glad to heat that these rib have stood the test of time as well.

What could be done to reinvent the Affordaplane to a more homogeneous project?

In the article that was quoted stated that the prototype butterfly was made from aluminum but production kits used thermo formed polystyrene ribs. Certainly temperature range and uv resistance need to be considered. I tried to look up the specs on some of the plastics but didn't get very far...

What could be done to reinvent the Affordaplane to a more homogeneous project?

I was intrigued by the use of "thermoformed polystyrene" used for wing ribs on the production models. I can see certain advantages in the forming of flanges for stiffness and simplified attachment to tube spars. The sheet material could possibly be used for a formed leading edge and bonded to...

    Ultralight Airplane Workshop on Youtube

Oddly the videos are on Youtube but not on the website?? Its a series of 4 videos that take you through the design process covered in Dan Raymers book but specifically adapted to a Part 103 UL design. Just search it up on Youtube. I've actually corresponded with Leon and I will mention the...

What could be done to reinvent the Affordaplane to a more homogeneous project?

LoL! keep those creative juices flowing....and with that in mind.... Why not just run the 2x2 tube through the tablesaw to make it a channel. Now you have access to solid rivet all the gussets and nest the diagonal tubes side by side in the bottom of the channel with a single bolt. You've just...

What could be done to reinvent the Affordaplane to a more homogeneous project?

Interesting concept, I see the merits particularly if it was to be produced as a kit. You will need a pretty substantial press brake to bend those long channels out of fairly heavy gauge material. That will make it unworkable for any homebuilder, plus all the diagonals will be different widths...

The Janowski Project - Rethinking the J1B/J2/J3

Buccaneer is a great looking airplane and if I lived on a lake I would definitely be looking at something like this. Sadly waterfront property where I live is at stratospheric prices and in high demand just like the cost of hangar construction and lot lease at local airports it's out of reach at...
