    Tuning the Zenith 12566 carburetor on a 32 HP 1/2 VW ...

Motorcycle slide-type carbs (Mikuni and Keihin - haven't seen a Bing in years) adjust an air circuit for idle. The Keihin FCR used on 4-stroke bikes uses a fuel circuit. Air circuit screws clockwise for richer; fuel circuit screws counter-clockwise for richer. Many get them confused.

Harbor Freight Predator 670 V-Twin Horsepower tests

I would like to see the comparison with the PSRU using a prop of 66 to 70 inches - wouldn't this be more likely?

    DuroMax Power XP35HPE 999cc V-Twin HP testing

I suspect that this engine is a good candidate due to possibly greater crank strength per HP. Steel rods has my attention.

    Universal electronic ignition options?

I looked at the industrial contact blocks but decided to use on-off-on toggle switches - one for each cylinder. I may yet change my mind.

    Universal electronic ignition options?

Shoot, looks like the link is dead. Lots of good info from a college engineering professor in England. I'll search for it on another server.

    Universal electronic ignition options?

For the ignition system I'm running 2 separate GM 4-pin HEI's for each cylinder. This will be a reluctor type system. For each cylinder: One HEI at zero degrees (top dead center) for hand propping and one HEI set at 28 degrees BTDC for full power. Start on the 0 degree HEI then switch to the 28...

Harbor Freight Predator 670 V-Twin Horsepower tests

Rusty, rather than using a key for the flywheel try this: Set the timing, then drill a hole in the flywheel to match the slot in the crankshaft. Thread the hole and use a set-screw to fix the location. The set-screw is only allowing the timing to be repeated and does nothing for holding the...

    Milling machine/lathe options

I have a 1937 model Southbend 9" x 40" lathe. I see these on Marketplace pretty often for under $1000.00. I also have a Precision Mathews PM-30V milling machine (retirement present to myself!). Both of these are large enough and precise enough to do real work. Now if I could only get a lot...

    Universal electronic ignition options?

Does that include firing the HEI module AND the coils (how many coils at what RPM)?

    Universal electronic ignition options?

I agree but it is much harder to fabricate a 'movable' timing plate. I have a new idea to implement this though so maybe I can get it done.

    Universal electronic ignition options?

Here is the 4" aluminum puck that I'm using for the ignition pickup trigger. There is a steel 'blade' like an HEI ignition uses to trigger the sensor.

    Universal electronic ignition options?

This is how I'm setting up my 993cc. I'm using 2 4-wire HEI's and 4 stock pickups. Each cylinder will be running separate ignitions with timing set a 0 degrees and 28 degrees (or whatever testing shows works best).

Always messing with that stuff at my Marine &Cycle shop for the last 45 years. I use valve lapping compund to check the taper fit and seldom if ever use a key. I wish they would not cut them into the shafts personally. It just weakens them. My HEI ignition weighs 3.5 lbs as designed. Ignition-...

Harbor Freight Predator 670 V-Twin Horsepower tests

If I turn the 993cc to 4500 RPM that gives 2500 RPM at the prop. That seems like a pretty good combination for a 68" prop on a slow moving airplane of ~75 mph. The mudboat guys are turning this engine 4750 RPM for hundreds of hours without problems. My engine is identical to the 37HP engine...
