    Carbon Fiber Tube Fuselage

A couple of thoughts on this post. Braided Kevlar could be pulled over the tube and fused with epoxy- this would throw away a great deal of shattering in the event of a crash. With regards to joints a friend of mine made stanchion bases for yachts with a 2 piece mould and removable male plugs-...

I am building a tractor, side by side, engine behind pilot gyroplane.

thank-you everyone for your input- I promise i will be listening very carefully to all of your advise and will let you know how I get on. Regards Sabine

Thanks so very much- yes I do have a test rig and will use it and follow your advise. Greatly appreciated

Hi Billski, goodness I wish I was close to you and could feed off your good sense. The difficulty i would have in placing the reduction drive in the nose is quite simply space, and without tearing the plane apart completely would be virtually impossible to do. What I have is a two bearing (for...

I am building a tractor, side by side, engine behind pilot gyroplane.

Thanks Billski, right now what I am thinking is a cogged tooth belt from drive pulley to driven in a 2:1 ratio and possibly putting a motorcycle clutch with built in Cush dampers in the driven pulley, so I can clutch the pulley to start and then slowly (soft start) the prop and prop-shaft. Your...

Jan Kritzinger (aeronautical engineer) calculated that we should have sufficient rudder authority with the single rudder- hopefully this will prove correct- try whenever possible to keep to William Bushnell's theory of "simplicate and add lightness . It keeps in sync with my brain!!!

thanks so much - problem is not knowing what their clutch and dampers are and if its a off shelf item which would be preferable

Goodness, thank-you Billski, sadly I am having to go the option 2 route with this plane as I will have the reduction drive immediately after the engine- wow you do make a man's brain engage and thanks for that as I guess this is what the forum is for. My brain says redrive, clutch...

yes, I did, but couldn't get much info. the problem remains trying to find something preferably off shelf.

Oh goodness, that looks amazing- I built a previous itteration which had a dual vertical rudder and chucked it because of wanting to reduce complexity. i think by going to a single rudder i eliminated 18 parts. I would settle for 125hp but i guess there is never enough power is there.

At the moment its quite easy to step onto the wheel and in and mindboggling if she wears a mini

Tractor gyro- no porpoising. Engine behind cockpit -awesome visibility

I had the bespoke carbon shaft made up for me. It is filament wound as per several racing car / supercar manufacturers and balanced afterwards.

your response is greatly appreciated- yes the 80mm dia filament wound shaft will be very stiff- if Guibo couplings would do the trick I don't know. The trick seems to be allowing the engine to start first, hopefully keeping the TV out of the operating range of the engine and prop.

thanks for the lead- one of the greats of the outboard powerhead is the very small size of the flywheel, which will be on the other end of the crankshaft to the output.

Thanks for your comments- always appreciated. The mast is approximately 1200mm above the fuselage and the rotor won't contact the tail. I will be shortening the rather silly looking tailwheel- I don't like it and it was originally an attempt to put more load onto the mains.
