    USAF, USN, USMC, USA picklesuits

https://carterny.com/ These guys claim official Berry compliant supplier and US made. I got one from them. They're not the best at retail sales, shipping took a bit, I was charged a restocking fee for a return. If they weren't the only US made one I would suggest doing business elsewhere...

    CAD for wiring diagrams

I've been using QElectroTech. It's fine for what I need but all the symbols are Euro standard so I end up making aircraft specific ones using the in-program symbol editor. It was free and works. I don't have anything to compare it to other than Solidworks (non electrical circuits version) and...

What Skills to Fly the Stewart S-51 Mustang?

Regarding insurance on the S-51, a guy was looking to buy that one for $150k and couldn't get insurance. I have inquired about something similar and told I could probably get it for $50k / year if I really wanted. Regarding T-6 time, general consensus I'm hearing is around 200 hours in T-6...

Where do you look for land Online ?

I look on Zillow, realtor.com, loopnet (commerical / larger acreages), Barnstormers, and Trade-a-plane. If the land is remote then I personally would want some buildings because I know how hard it is to get anything built these days. Justin

Why is trailing link gear so good?

From issues I've run run into, it's easier to use a trailing link gear than to design an oleo strut, find the correct size tubing, have it ground or honed, then chrome plated... you get the picture. I can count on one finger the places that carry large diameter 4130 tubing (that I could find)...

A Detailed Look at PSRU Design Methodology

Great information, thank you. Jack you are probably extremely busy but something that would be seriously interesting for me and many others would be a short design review of the actual PSRU units available. There's only a few I think, the Stewart, AutoPSRU, LSAero Engines (Moose Mods) and...

Ford V8 Powered 70% Spitfire Replica

Very cool and unusual to see a later mark replica. Sounds like he needs to get with the Stewart Mustang guys regarding the engine/PSRU. Thanks for posting.

    Scratch Built Composite Spitfire

I think that's a reference to a big block Chevy pattern 540 c.i. with a Merlin brand block, but I'm not positive on that. That's somewhat common in the S-51 community.

    Determination of Aft CG Limit

As above, pick up Perkins Hage, "Airplane Performance Stability and Control" and go through the calcs for stick fixed and stick free neutral point as a start. Also grab Snorri Gudmundson's 2nd edition design book which incorporates stability stuff and I think is slightly more user friendly as...

    More V-12s

I would be interested in a V-12 with at least 350hp @10k ft at cruise power, for anyone out there contemplating. I've been following Ole's work (BMW V-12 based project) and it looks promising. Justin

    How do Manufacturers Prep Aluminum?

For future builders, here's two interesting snippets I found when researching a restoration project: BLUF: don't use etch primer under epoxy primer https://us.ppgrefinish.com/PPG-Refinish/Products/Tech-Tips/Paint-Pointers/April-2014/No-longer-recommended-to-use-an-etch-primer-under BLUF: you...

    Understanding pulleys and tackles formulas?

The pulley diameter thing got me at first when designing controls. What was known by most everyone but me is that with a pulley, the arc length traveled .by each pulley in that type of system is equal regardless of the diameter so there is no "gearing' change. Bigger pulleys just turn fewer...

    Quality DC-DC converters 24v to 12v

There's one on Aircraft Spruce for about 20 bucks from Plane Crazy I believe the name is. We are currently using these to power wingtip strobes: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09ZNWQRT2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Justin
