What needs to be done?

Hi,
Here's a simple question, and I hope the answer is straightforward also:

What besides a redrive needs to be done to convert an automobile engine for airplane use?

Put another way: Why can't one mount a redrive on an auto engine and just go fly?

I'm thinking in particular of two engines: the BMW R1200 motorcycle engine, and the Smart Car engine. I don't understand why one can't just hook them up, and have done with it.

Please educate me.
