A recent article of a well know Aviation Magazine, has quoted a formula in Error, of the Volume coefficient (Vh) of the Horizontal Tail (St).
Now for a novice designer, this misquoted formula could be confusing, it certainly confused me as at first glance it seem similar to what I have used.
There are a couple of ways to do this, but suffice to say that it should have read Vh=(St/Sw)*(Lt/MAC) rather than what's in the Mag.
What I use is Vh = (St*Lt)/(Sw*MAC) both of these work equally well.
I mention this to save confusion and as I'm not a subscriber to that Mag. I hope some one puts them straight.
Also the quoted expert has everything other than the formula, well presented and correct but he failed to provide a targeted Vh for Light Aircraft.
I have quoted all this in my Excel Spread Sheet, for aspiring novice designers, which I can send privately to those interested.
